Today we’d like to introduce you to Javi Star.
Hi Javi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“My sound is all about feels…. Whether it’s Happy, Sad, or Love feelings I want my music to move you. Although my roots and inspiration come from the old school R&B and Soul sound. I love to infuse those feels with sounds of today. New age twist with a Retro Vibes.” -Javi Starr
Luis “Javi Star” Egurrola has been entertaining the masses with his unique style, passion and performance since the tender age of eight. During High School and College, he further explored the world of theater and dance which created an opportunity for Javi to perform in multiple local and national productions; setting the framework for a life of entertainment, countless collaborations, awards, and accolades for years to come.
Some of his musical influences include Prince, Michael Jackson, George Michael, and Maxwell; these artistic styles are easily identified as you watch Javi’s engaging and eclectic style of entertainment.
Javi has coached and performed with the Phoenix Mercury Hip Hop Squad and the Phoenix SUNS Solar Squad for over a decade. He lends his skillset to Choreography Pros (A Pro Dance Convention), by choreographing for collegiate and dance teams in the NBA. Such teams include the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavs, Portland Trailblazers, Sacramento Kings and the Denver Nuggets.
Javi performed in and choreographed for the 2009 NBA All-Star Week, and has choreographed for many events in the valley of the sun as well as nationally. His personal style left his thumbprint on several music videos, live performances, theatrical events, hosting events and competitions. Javi serves as Co-Artistic Director of EPIK Dance Company, a Phoenix based non-profit dance company. EPIK offers an avenue for dancers to further their dance career by providing them with opportunity to perform professionally and produce live stage productions. Javi is no stranger to TV, working with many local News and TV stations and acting as the In Arena host for the Phoenix Suns and Mercury.
Javi’s commercial work, charity work, and works with many of the community school programs in Arizona has been acknowledged and awarded by the Phoenix Festival of Arts Mayor’s Award (2013) and the State of Black Arizona Honoree (Arts and Arts Education Vol. IV 2015).
Javi has released his new single I Got You on Studio 54 music record label, and is currently recording an EP album to be released soon.
Javi Star says singing and entertainment is his life! His mantra is “No matter what you do or how you do it, as long as you have true passion you will succeed.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A struggle that I’ve encountered and I think it’s true of any artist, is believing in yourself. Self-doubt is always lingering. We only hope that the audience feels our music in the way we want. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am very grateful that at this point in my life I am able to still create and work on the things I love. Music has always been in me and will always reside. For many years I have worked and created for others. Now is the time for me to create for me. I am very proud of all of my relationships I have created here in the valley being a born and raised native. Although I wear many hats here in the valley. Now is the time to highlight my recording artist career, my next chapter.
How do you define success?
Success is being able to do what you love and love doing it. No matter what you do, if you do it with passion you will succeed.
