Today we’d like to introduce you to Janki Raval.
Hi Janki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I’m Janki Raval, a passionate henna artist and founder of JaanHenna. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Vadodara, India, I grew up surrounded by art, culture, and tradition. I come from a family of multi-talented artists, and from a very young age, I found myself deeply drawn to creative expression.
What began as a hobby during my teenage years applying henna for friends and family gradually turned into a lifelong passion. Over the past 15 years, I have honed this art form professionally, and today, I’m proud to say that JaanHenna has become a trusted name in the henna community.
My journey hasn’t been easy. When I moved to the United States, especially after relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, I had to start over and build my reputation from scratch. It took immense dedication, resilience, and consistency to gain trust, attract clients, and stand out in a new market. Like many artists, I’ve faced my share of rejections and doubts but over time, my work began to speak for itself.
What sets JaanHenna apart is a commitment to authenticity, cleanliness, and care. I use 100% organic, handmade henna paste, made from natural ingredients and a few secret essential oils a recipe I openly share on my website because I believe in transparency. My clients know exactly what’s being applied to their skin.
I cover a wide range of henna styles bridal, Arabic, Indian traditional, modern, fusion, arm bands, belly henna for pregnancy, henna crowns for cancer patients, and more. Every design is customized with heart and soul. Seeing a smile on someone’s face after revealing their design is truly the most rewarding part of my work.
One of the most meaningful experiences of my career has been working with cancer patients to create henna crowns during chemotherapy. It’s a deeply emotional, healing experience and a reminder of why I do what I do.
Despite holding a Master’s degree in Economics, I chose to follow my artistic calling while also raising my two daughters. Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship hasn’t been simple, but with the support of my incredible husband, parents, and sister, I’ve managed to grow my business while staying true to my values. After my dad passed away I feel relax while I do my art.
There are many talented henna artists out there, but I often hear from clients how clean, precise, and detailed my work is and how calming the experience feels. I treat every design as a form of meditation a moment to slow down, connect, and celebrate life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me, doing henna has never been a challenge. it’s a form of positive energy.
Every design I create flows naturally from a place of joy and peace. Henna, to me, is not just an art it’s a celebration of culture, connection, and good vibes.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started my business as a professional henna artist, but along this journey, I’ve been fortunate to meet so many amazing people who have become friends.
Clients often come to me for henna during both joyful and difficult moments whether it’s for a celebration or healing. I take the time to listen to their stories, and that emotional connection has shaped me into the artist I am today. It’s more than just creating beautiful designs; it’s about understanding and being present for the people I serve.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Phoenix holds a special place in my heart.
It’s the city where I gave birth to my daughter, and it’s also where I truly found myself as a henna artist. Both motherhood and my creative journey blossomed here, and for that, I’ll always be deeply grateful to Phoenix.
