Rising Stars: Meet Jae Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jae Carter.

Hi Jae, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Jae. I actually started in Virginia and moved here 7 months ago. After resigning as a 12th grade English public school teacher, I decided to go with the wind and moved, with my two daughters, to Glendale, AZ. We love it here.

This was everything that I needed to continue on my much-needed healing mission. While in Virginia, I published a book titled, “Stop Fuckin’ Settling”, a short memoir about my world and all that I had experienced and learned throughout the first 36 years of this life journey. So, if you want to know all about me and my world, you have to buy the book!! Ha! I also have a limited edition of Self-Care boxes, designed and crafted by me.

Presently, I am working on a Homeschool App that will be released on Apple and Google platforms, in early April. It is titled, “Homeschool Yo Kids” and includes all the need to know for an individual to take charge of their Young Learner’s learning journey and be comfortable with facilitating their education. After working in public school education for over 14 years, I know that parents have what it takes to guide their Young Learner’s learning journey. I

also know that a lot of individuals would love to take the steps in the homeschooling direction, but don’t know where to begin. So, I have developed an app that will answer all the questions, provide many resources, and even offer a look into our “home learning” journey.

In my other time, I’ve teamed up with Derrick Warford, with Azea Wellness, to organize and host community events. “Health is Wealth: The Block Party” is a community engagement event that works towards building relationships within the community and providing much-needed resources to families.

We have local vendors, food trucks, entertainment, and plenty of family activities available to all that come out. We are entering month 4 of these events and each month is better than the last.

In my understanding of how important healing physically, mentally, and spiritually is for the individual in order to gain the wealth that will last generations, I look to do my part in whichever way this journey leads me. Health is wealth. I love people. I enjoy working with my community.

I know that healing needs to take place as a collective for us to move forward in providing a healthy environment for future generations.

So here I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been filled with so much. I believe every obstacle I’ve faced was needed to get me to this point. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and I continually ‘trust the process’ daily. I used to believe that I could plan everything out and that it would all happen as I planned it. But I have definitely learned that it doesn’t work that way.

The ‘Universe’ is forever working in our favor, even if we don’t see it at that time. Every bump, roadblock, and a detour has led me to where I am today, and I’m thankful. I wake up every day full of gratitude for all of the experiences that have shaped my world in the manner that it has. I’ve learned to handle each day, one at a time because that’s how they are given to us.

When asked how I’m doing, I respond with “learning & growing”, because that’s what it’s all about. You go through life and experience so much on your journey, and you can either learn and grow from those experiences or find yourself in a loop of the same experiences, exhausting yourself by providing the same solutions to the obstacles you face.

I appreciate it all. Everything that I have experienced has grown me mentally, physically, and spiritually.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I don’t even know where to start with this question. I am creative. I am an artist. I am a writer. I am a teacher. It has taken me a while to accept those roles.

But I do fall in those categories. I don’t like labels. I don’t like being placed in a “box”. Once a label is placed on you, people begin to expect that out of you, any, and every time they see you. I feel like there are things that I do well. But this life always offers twists in my journey that cause me to question the categories that I appear to fit in.

I was a teacher in the classroom for 14 years. Working in public schools for 8 years as a Substitute Teacher, then 6 years in my own classroom. I started declaring my future as a teacher when I was in the 5th grade. While I was in a classroom, my main purpose for being there was to show the difference. I wanted my students to know that there were no “standards” that they had to live up to.

They just needed to be them and follow their heart. I wanted every student that was sent my way to understand that their life was as important as the next individual’s life. We are all a part of this puzzle of life, and each piece of a puzzle is important because, without one, the puzzle is not complete. It’s really important for me to ensure those who do not always feel seen or heard know that I hear them and see them.

It’s something that is still with me. But my teaching platform has definitely changed. I’m no longer in a classroom. We are all here for a reason. We are all walking in our purpose. We just have to tune out the outside noise to ensure that we don’t get distracted along the journey. But greatness is a part of each of our journeys if we allow it to be.

I’m most proud of my ability to continue to move in the manner that I move without the approval of others. I love me. I know that I think differently. I know that I move differently than the majority. But I still move. Everyday.

What matters most to you? Why?
Peace and Healing. Healing myself, so I can show others how to do the same. Healing is needed. Spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Individuals have to know that the power to heal is within them, not outside of them. You have everything you need to reach your higher self and live in peace. Peace is needed within each individual. If everyone is at peace, there is no time or space for war, conflict, or anger.

Throughout life, we experience so much that alters us as ‘beings’. We come here in the purest and most divine form, only for us to undertake years and decades of experiences that dim our light. It’s important to get back to yourself.

Get back to the “you” that you were before you decided to take on all the opinions, thoughts, and feelings that are outside of yourself. Remember you. Remember your worth. Remember your purpose. Remember the love that you began with.

Everything begins with you.
