Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Calaman
Hi Jada, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my creative journey as a model. At first, I was not confident in myself or what I can do to stand out in front of the camera. Overtime I began to truly feel beautiful, powerful, and confident in front of the camera. It wasn’t just about how I looked, but how I felt in that moment of vulnerability and empowerment.
As I experienced these moments of self-assurance and joy through modeling, I realized the camera wasn’t just an object – it was a tool used to capture and amplify self-love and confidence. I wanted to help other women experience that same feeling, show them how beautiful and capable they can be in their own skin. That’s when I shifted my focus from being in front of the camera to working behind it.
Through my lens, I strive to make everyone I photograph feel seen, celebrated, and empowered. Photography for me, is more than just creating pretty images- it’s about capturing the essence of someone’s confidence and beauty, and giving them a safe space to see themselves as they truly are.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My photography journey has not been a smooth or straightforward path. Like many creatives, I’ve faced doubts and struggles along the way- especially when it comes to trusting myself and my work. Early on, I found it hard to believe in what I was creating. There were many times when I questioned my ability to tell the stories of the clients I was photographing, wondering if what I was capturing was the true essence of who they were.
There were also moments when my confidence took a hit. I would find myself looking at other photographers work – some with more experience, or who seemed to have a more established style and couldn’t help but compare myself to them. It was hard not to feel like I wasn’t measuring up to them or good enough. Even now, I sometimes struggle with my editing style, questioning if I am staying true to my vision.
I’ve come to realize that these struggles are part of the process. These are all signs that I care deeply about my work and wants to improve constantly. Each challenge has pushed me to refine my craft, trust my voice, and remember why I started this journey.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Intimate Portrait and Wedding Photographer. I’m known for capturing genuine, heartfelt moments that feel intimate and authentic. I create a relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment for my clients allowing their true emotions and personalities to shine through in every shot.
I’m most proud of my ability to document raw, real moments that tell a story. I love that my work allows couples and families to relive such a special day in a way that feels true to their experience – not just the big moments, but also the subtle, tender ones that are often overlooked.
What sets me apart from other photographers is my deep focus on creating intimate, personalized experiences for each couple or family. I don’t just take photos; I build a relationship with my clients, ensuring they feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. This allows me to capture authentic, unscripted moments that reflect of who they are.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is being surrounded by family during the holidays. There was something about the laughter and conversations echoing from the dining/ living room, and the way everyone would come together, sharing memories and food. I remember feeling so safe and loved in those moments, surrounded by so many family members at once enjoying time together. It wasn’t just about the meals or gifts being shared, but the sense of connection and traditions made it so special. That feeling of warmth and unity has always stayed with me. Celebrating the little moments of connections and love that make life meaningful.
