Today we’d like to introduce you to Grayson Wallen.
Hi Grayson, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a therapist because I love seeing couples smile together again. I specialize in helping couples recover from affairs and deal with high conflict. This comes from my background and training in The Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. This journey started when I was in graduate school and I worked with a Certified Gottman Therapist as a supervisor, which set my intention to be a CGT as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The process of getting a Masters and then subsequently a license is not for the faint of heart. I have also gotten certified in The Gottman Method and completed a three year training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. These models both take significant time to learn, manage and process through since they are both technical therapies, meaning that the therapist is active and engaged, doing things in therapy. The reason it takes as long as it does to become proficient in these models is because the therapist needs to know right thing to do as opposed to facilitating a session and seeing where it goes naturally.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in helping couples reconnect despite challenging circumstances like affair recovery, chronic fights and disagreements and problems. Couples often do not know what to do and are considering ending their relationship due to fatigue, hopelessness and defeat. Couples who work with me often recover and rebound their satisfaction to new heights they had not reached prior.
What are your plans for the future?
I am working to empower green therapists by emphasizing transformational leadership principles from Brene Brown, Seth Godin and others. Therapy is a field where there’s many changes, but the actual practice of therapy has not been integrated with modern leadership and business leader thinking, leading to outdated systems that limit the opportunities therapists have before they can even be ready to launch their own practices, let alone having skills that are worth seeking out and paying for in the cash market.
