Rising Stars: Meet Gabriel ‘Trulove’ Ortiz of Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel ‘Trulove’ Ortiz.

Hi Gabriel ‘Trulove’, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up a student of music. In my teens, I would do deep dives on my favorite artists, researching their upbringing & backgrounds. Deciphering styles, creative approaches, & overall messages. Doing deep dive after deep dive, I found myself swimming in a sea of inspiration. Deciding I wanted to rap, I began recording & engineering my own music in 2015 and over the last decade, I’ve spent countless hours working on my craft. Now, with 6 albums under my belt (& a whole lot of trial & error). I am currently finishing up classes at the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences with plans of moving to New York early 2026 for a full time career as an Audio Engineer!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been easy! The last 10 years has been a never ending journey of learning. From teaching myself to write, produce, & engineer music to editing music videos, creating marketing plans, forming/producing groups, & planning events. Failure is bound to come but even in those moments, I find myself dissecting, learning, & preparing for my next move.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
All in all, I consider myself to be a multi-faceted artist. Dabbling in multiple artistic mediums. I’m known mostly for my music but I specifically specialize in audio engineering whether that be for music or post production. When talking about what i’m most proud of (besides my extreme growth through learning), you’ll usually hear me mention bringing together 4 artist & formed a group named ‘GREENWOOD’. I had the honor to produced 2 albums for said group before they eventually dissolved in 2022. I’m also extremely proud to say that I have recently stepped into the fashion realm by assisting the production & styling for Phoenix based clothing brand ‘Expired Citizens’ in fall 2024. As to what sets me apart? I adapt. In any scenario, throw me in a creative space & I tend to excel. I’m a leader and an equally important role player with good ideas.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
A major childhood memory for me would be playing the ‘rockband’ video games with my dad. He was our drummer while I sang & played guitar simultaneously. I didn’t realize that those moments were helping me come closer to realizing my passion though. It was like receiving something you didn’t know you needed. Little me turning into a rockstar every night.

My dad definitely enjoyed playing a little more than me though, haha! We were playing on school nights, LATE! I’d be standing in the middle of the living room falling asleep in between songs. I remember getting suspended in school once for fighting. My “punishment” was that I had to play longer nights!!!
