Rising Stars: Meet Don Don Hernandez of Glendale az

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Don Hernandez.

Hi Don Don, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up without a family or parents because I was raised in foster care my whole life. I found tattooing in art when I was 20 years old I decided I did no longer wanted to get in trouble and I wanted to do something with my life and I was already getting heavily tattooed, which was why I was so interested in it. I moved to Arizona And just ran with it. Started tattooing around 2014 and then opened up a tattoo shop in 2017 that is still open to this day and is one of the most popular shops in Arizona called that one tattoo parlor. I started a tattoo convention, called the Gila tattoo expo in 2023!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in this industry is smooth. Took me a long time to understand tattooing and it took me even a longer time to have an attitude that would make a successful business owner. I grew up very rough so it caused me to have an attitude about me against the world. Which was unnecessary, so I was causing a lot of people to not be fond of me later in my life

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I specialize and big and bold tattoos. Mostly color and geometric the tattoos that I do are very in your face and noticeable. I’m proud to say that I have some of the cleanest lines in the business and it really does separate me from a lot of tattoos, who unfortunately don’t feel that line work is important.

How do you define success?
I think everyone has a definition of success, but me personally defining success will just be getting better every day. It is a successful thing to improve on something you love on a regular basis.
