Today we’d like to introduce you to Dineta Williams-Trigg.
Hi Dineta, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in front of the camera as an actor. I got tired of being cast as the fat best friend of the lead or the hooker with a “heart of gold.” I am so much more than the roles that I was being offered. I am someone’s wife, sister, daughter, and neighbor. I decided at that time to begin to tell my own stories, which would give me more control of who I wanted to cast in projects, including myself, if need be.
Oftentimes, I suffer from “Imposter Syndrome”, feeling like I don’t belong in the filmmaker community. I understand that those are just lying that society tells me, and I tell myself. I do belong here, and it’s my responsibility to help as many other people tell their stories as possible. So far, it has been a joyous adventure.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there have been challenges along the way. Funding is always a challenge, there never seems to be enough of the money that we need to get our projects completed, but my business partner and I have found very inventive ways to complete our projects, by thinking outside of the box. Life in itself is a challenge, but I’m still here.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started it in front of the camera many years ago, but I’m a storyteller and wanted to tell my own stories. Sharing my own stories led me to seek out others who were ready to tell their stories as well. Back in 2016, P.C. (pre covid), I started “A Night of Misfit Films,” which screens local and international films, all 15 minutes or less. There is something special about stories that have a beginning, middle, and end all within the space of 15 minutes.
From that point on I have been honored to also direct festivals all over the world, i.e. Montreal, Canada, Paris, France and Beruit, Lebanon, and our newest edition in Albuquerque New Mexico. I find it deeply fulfilling to help facilitate filmmakers on their journey to get ” eyes on their films”.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m an Introvert hiding in an Extrovert’s body.
