Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Diep
Hi Diana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My origin story began in 2017 after my grandmother passed away from blood cancer. I spent the last 7 months with her as a fulI time care giver and wanted to be able to help her more. I wanted the skills and knowledge to make her last days easier and with less symptoms and side effects. I found Naturopathic medicine shortly after and enrolled as a medical student. When Covid-19 hit in April 2020, the program went fully online. I felt like a huge portion was missing without the community and the hands-on practice. I knew I wanted to help others in a medical way, so after a year of studying I took a short leave and found clinical aesthetics. I became a Licensed Esthetician, Certified Laser Tech, and Laser Safety Officer. I wanted to work for other businesses and learn as much as I could about skin under medical providers of all sorts. From Physician offices, Optometry, to MedSpa’s; I still wanted more. I competed in an International competition after my first year of being a Licensed Esthetician and in 2023-2024, I won The Skin Games award for New Esthetician of the Year! It was the confidence boost I needed and reassured me that I was on the right career path. Those around me all supported the idea of becoming a solo Esthetician and having my own small business. Even though I had the skills and gained more knowledge about skin, I still felt a puzzle piece missing from my work. Since I have a soft spot in my heart for those who battle cancer journeys, I became Oncology Certified and am working with a non-profit to provide complimentary and discounted treatments for those actively in cancer treatments as well as pre and post cancer treatment. This tied up all the loose ends for me. In the treatment room, I focus on clinical treatments that change skin on a cellular level and include a hefty amount of education about skin science, ingredients of skincare products, and after care. I am now working on becoming a Licensed Esthetics Educator where I will be able to teach others to become professionals as well! The beauty industry is constantly changing, so it’s important for me to continue learning and being a life-long student for myself and my clients as they deserve the best version of me!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Very rarely is one’s journey is ever straight and steady to the finish line. I struggled finding a business that matched my ethical standards in how to treat skin. I struggled with doing what was profitable for the company versus what was in the best interest of the client for long term health and results for their skin. It was quite the struggle walking away from places that I felt had so much potential, yet was not open to making those changes. I am only one person, so if I couldn’t help implement those changes, I would just have to do it on my own. Starting my own business from scratch was the biggest challenge I had ever come across. Multiple factors that I had never done, from the back end of accounting/finances, to obtaining salon and tax licenses, building a website, and managing current and new clientele. It’s something new everyday so I have absolutely grown a new appreciation for those who have successful small businesses! Working for others may cause burnout, but working for yourself has it’s own set of completely different challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I provide corrective skin treatments mainly in the form of chemical peel facials, microneedling, and nanoneedling. Using a few different professional skincare lines, I specialize in treating pigmentation, scarring, and age management. When I competed in the skin games, I chose a tougher category that isn’t initially sought after, especially as a newer professional, choosing scar revision. I also really enjoy treating discoloration/pigmentation, another skin concern that is incredibly tough to manage and takes a very long time to see results. I am a fan of treating skin with a blended clinical and holistic approach. Typically, it’s one or the other, but having a more holistic medical background allows me to have the knowledge to understand the science of the body and translate that into skin treatments. I blend in massage for the scalp, face, hands, and arms because that allows for blood flow. The circulation gives fresh oxygen which means more nutrients to the area. Oxygenation and nutrition to organs will give off a natural glow from the inside out, so understanding that everything I do in the treatment room has a purpose. I think that is what sets me apart from the industry.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the beauty industry becoming much more blended and will fit my treatment philosophy much more! We’re currently seeing so many more shifts like the growth of male skincare, men getting clinical skin treatments, oncology esthetics, more professional skincare lines are tweaking their brands to be able to include cancer-friendly products, and supplementation! A holistic approach is becoming viral as the younger generation wants to know exactly what ingredients are going into and on their skin and body.
