Rising Stars: Meet Dayna Tames

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayna Tames. 

Hi Dayna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always had an affinity for the beauty industry, but it wasn’t until I discovered eyelash extensions that I was compelled to be a part of it. I officially entered the cosmetology field in 2017 with the intent of becoming a lash artist. After personally experiencing the magic of wearing lashes myself, I knew I had to share them with everyone else. I opened Tameless Lash Artistry in 2019 & won my first international lash extension championship that same year. Since then, I’ve continued to perfect my craft & expand Tameless Lash Artistry, including winning eight more worldwide competitions, becoming an accredited judge of eyelash extension championships, & opening our lash extension academy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any business, there are ups & downs & growth, in particular, is uncomfortable. Navigating through the waters of salon ownership (especially during COVID) & keeping up with social media & the expansion of Tameless L.A. has been an incredible learning experience. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given, as well as the ones I’ve created along the way & I look forward to the future to come. 

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist, multi-award-winning lash artist, educator, & internationally accredited eyelash extension championship judge. As of January 2022, I’ve won eight eyelash extension championships at national & international levels, was voted top eyelash extension artist in Phoenix the past two years, & have earned over ten lash extension certifications from around the world & am counting. I began teaching my craft to elevate the lash industry & believe that great lash artists should be the rule… not the exception. My company is also partnered with one of the USA’s largest lash brands to offer our students the absolute highest standard of eyelash extension education available. I’m passionate about every aspect of lashing, from the fundamentals to advanced artistry & I genuinely love this industry! I couldn’t be happier to share that love through my artwork & education. 

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Surround yourself with great people & remain teachable. Sometimes your mentor will find YOU!
