Rising Stars: Meet Daylon, Daura, Devon of Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daylon, Daura, Devon.

Hi Daylon, Daura, Devon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our 3 part harmony didn’t start until a few years ago. Besides a few piano lessons and high school choir, none of us had a musical background. No ground-breaking talent, no specialized training. We used to make fun of Daylon for being off-key when he sang. Our voices were not exceptional.

The year of 2020 was the year of discovery for us. During covid, with a little extra time on our hands, we experimented singing some of our favorite songs together for fun. We decided to take our little show on the road and carol to neighbors and families that we thought could use a friendly face and a song in this time of isolation. We sang on a lot of porches and front lawns that spring and summer. The music seemed to boost people’s moral.

We got our first microphone in December 2021 and posted our first song “You Are the Reason” on YouTube. With no experience, we learned how to record and mix our songs and use a camera to film our videos. Everything was homemade, literally held together by Velcro and Scotch tape. We had no idea what we were doing, but we kept going at the encouragement of family and friends.

It wasn’t until the holiday season of 2023 that we found our music taking hold in the YouTube community. People loved our Christmas music, and we grew from a few thousand subscribers to 100K subscribers over a 3 month span. This was quite unexpected. With all three of us deep in our respective STEM majors and plans for further schooling, we had to stop and decide if we wanted to take this opportunity seriously. We chose to go for it and started posting on our channel more regularly. We also started growing our social media presence by posting “kitchen harmony” reels on instagram and TikTok. Now with a growing fan base, we have 2M followers over all our platforms.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We all love science and STEM. Our degrees would take us far from any career in music, and so we’ve each had to consider letting go of original career plans. We’re also very new to music production and we make everything ourselves. It’s a lot of hard work, and we’re still learning as we go!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our goal is to uplift and give hope through our music. It’s more than just a catchy tune for us. It’s about the message of family, of God, and of community. We want to bring light into people’s lives and help them through hard times. When we see our music at work in this way, we feel happy and fulfilled.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We hope to find ourselves traveling and putting on concerts and shows all over the world. We want to expand our reach and write our own music.
