Rising Stars: Meet Clara Leung

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clara Leung.

Hi Clara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Clara, and I am the creator of C Yarn Hut. I am a dental assistant during the daytime and a crafter at night. I have a huge passion for knitting and crocheting, specializing in Amigurumi. Every free moment, I would pick up my needles and a ball of yarn to create something I love. Like many others, my first knitting technique was taught by my mom, and gradually I began to explore crocheting and learning about new patterns. I am fascinated by the unlimited possibilities that a single strand of yarn can create; it is like the needle is my wand; before I knew it, I was under the magic spell of this art. C Yarn Hut started with friends’ encouragement after one-night shopping at Walmart in 2012. In the beginning, I primarily did special orders from friends, and soon I created a website to share my creations; I received many positive reviews, and a seed was planted in my mind to reach out to more people. With the help of my cousin Eva, I have my logo – Clara’s small dream house under the starry sky. I suppose when Eva designed the logo, she was trying to tell me to reach for the sky, for there is no limit to creativities, and it matches perfectly with my slogan, “Our hut is filled with Yarn, Our heart is filled with Love.” Still, recall my first-ever Craft Show Market visit in 2012, I met many talented crafters, and they were friendly and passionate about their works. It opened my vision that there were more than just scarves and clothing in the world of yarns. I turned my focus to Amigurumi (Aren’t they just adorable?!) and nervously entered my first show in 2013. During these years, I changed – from a quiet and shy person, I became more outgoing, eager to make new friends and share my creations with others. When faced with challenges, I bravely embraced them and did my best to overcome them.

The crafting community is filled with many amazing people; their love and dedication to this community truly made me feel proud to be part of – Hear Heart Icon. From doing small craft markets to doing big exhibitions, from only a few orders from friends and family to taking wholesale orders, earn and learned a lot in the past ten years. But one thing that hasn’t changed is my passion for art and crochet to bring this art to life.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road?! I will say 50/50. Time management and my stubborn personality are the struggles along the way.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I m a full-time dental assistant. The most proud of my daytime job is I give care to my patients. Like being a crochet artist, my artworks provide happiness to my customers. The best thing about working in a clinic, it’s a team job. Being an artist is all by myself.
