Rising Stars: Meet Charles Emanuel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Emanuel.

Hi Charles, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Rochester, NY, from my hometown of St. Kitts, in 2014. I began my musical career performing with some of the city’s powerhouses, such as Carlton Wilcox and Danielle Ponder.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road. It was filled with heartache, finding myself as a young queer man and a musician while also being black in America.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter/musician/producer specializing in live and studio recordings. Some of my proudest moments are traveling and performing overseas in places such as Toronto and Spain. What sets me apart from others is my vulnerability and honesty in my music.

What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
The most important qualities for my success are honesty, supportiveness, consistency, and dedication.
