Today we’d like to introduce you to Carma V.
Hi, Carma. We appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started doodling on the margins of my notebooks, then painting without any intention or formal training, just feeling the freedom to swirl around the paint. Art, for me, was an escape, a form of catharsis. I just created without the pressure of making ‘good art.’ My husband, Matthew, saw more in those doodles and idle sketches. He saw an artist.
He saw this raw artistic talent within me, this light burning with potential, and has nurtured that fire within me for the last decade. I remember standing in the kitchen one day, and he goes, “You’re in the wrong field, kid. You’re meant to be an artist.” The thought of being a professional artist at the time didn’t cross my mind. He surprised me one day with a pile of art supplies – sketchbooks, an assortment of graphite and charcoal pencils, colored pencils, and a container to house all my new drawing materials. He was a true believer from the get-go.
That’s when Carma Visions Professional Artistry was born. We came up with the name one evening over late-night cocktails and spitballing ideas and have built this dream together, envisioning a future bigger and brighter with every passing day. Without his belief in his love, I wouldn’t have embarked on this journey to be an artist, to bring beauty into the world through my paintings.
Art became more than an escape; it was a journey to myself. It was a daunting, sometimes painful journey that required unmasking my delusions being comfortable and accountable for every part of me, the good and the bad. I’ve had to face being both the hero and the villain in my story, the bearer of light and darkness. Recognizing and admitting the pain I’ve caused and the suffering I designed for myself was hard to swallow. But this journey is reflected in every brush stroke, in every piece I create. It’s my way to transform my pain and wounds into wildflowers. I’m here to bring love and light into the world, to turn hardships into hope. I’m here to paint the beauty I see and feel into the world, and I’m here to share it with you all.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Far from it, like any artist, I’ve faced my share of challenges and setbacks. Questions of self-doubt and the evolving discovery of my artistic voice are ever-present. However, discovering various educational platforms and connecting with a community of like-minded individuals has elevated both my artistry and my business. While my resilience, courage, and conviction are perpetually put to the test, I’m anchored by the deep-seated belief that I was destined to be an artist. I’ve also grappled with balancing the creative process against the business demands of being a self-represented artist. Marketing, managing social media, and building a collector base while staying true to my artistic vision has been a complex dance. It’s a tension that never fully dissipates, but it’s become a vital part of my artistic journey. What’s pulled me through the rough patches is the unwavering belief that the art I create has a place in the world and that souls are waiting to feel what I felt while creating it. The road has been challenging, but every bump and curve has been a lesson, enriching my art and individuality.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an emerging artist on a cosmic mission to paint beauty into the world and illuminate self-fulfillment through art that speaks to the collective soul. Combining females, flowers, and animals to a cosmic backdrop, I use the rich tones that acrylic and oil paint provide to explore the multicolored equilibrium between nature and the human condition. Strong females and vibrant wild animals blend on my canvas to create colorful, captivating subjects in a hybrid world of reality and surrealism. Combining these elements allows me to explore how opposites or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in ourselves and the natural world – a flower is delicate and resilient. Animals are both predator and prey, fierce but nurturing. Space is a void of uncertainty but infinite possibilities. The dark and the light exist side by side.
My artwork is centered on self-exploration, and the creative process is my unmasking. When I let go of the belief that what I need is outside of myself, I can discover my true nature and the strength and stability already present within. I am as ferocious as a lion and as compassionate and caring as a wolf to its pack. As creatures of this earth, we share the same feelings and emotions with other living things, and learning to accept, embrace and nourish the animal envoys within is instinctive beauty. My art education is self-curated, a tapestry of diverse experiences, experiments, online classes, and independent studies that have shaped my unique artistic voice. My artwork hangs in private collections from New York to Nevada. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I currently live and work in Scottsdale, Arizona.
So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
I’m thrilled to connect with those who resonate with my work. As a professional artist specializing in acrylic and oil painting, my artistic journey navigates through dreamy abstract realism, capturing female portraits and the untamed essence of wild animals. I’m always open to collaborations, commissions, and art exhibitions. If you want to add a transformative piece to your collection, I offer original works and fine art prints. I’m keen on partnerships with fellow artists and brands that align with my vision and artistic values. Collaboration is a powerful vehicle for artistic growth, and I am eager to explore opportunities that can enrich both our portfolios.
Support comes in many forms and can be something other than financial. Engaging with my art on social media, sharing it within your network, or even sending me feedback can make a difference as I build my collector base. One of the best ways to stay up-to-date with my latest projects, exhibitions, and exclusive offers is by subscribing to my email newsletter. I invite you to be a part of my artistic journey, whether by owning a piece that speaks to you, subscribing to my newsletter, or through a collaboration that pushes the boundaries of conventional art. Together, we can create something memorable, meaningful, and profoundly beautiful.
