Rising Stars: Meet Carissa Krabbenhoft of Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Krabbenhoft.

Hi Carissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography journey began in 2021, during the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic. What started as a creative outlet quickly grew into something much more meaningful. I began by photographing friends and family, using those early sessions to build my portfolio and refine my editing style while learning the art and business of photography.

The name Carissa’s Corner Photography was inspired by humble beginnings. At the time, I was a single mom living in a small apartment with my children, and quite literally, the corner of my room became my dedicated photography workspace. That small corner represented big dreams — a place where creativity, determination, and passion came together to build something meaningful.

My goal from the beginning was to create a career doing something I truly love while also having the flexibility to be present for my children.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The photography market is very popular, there are many amazing photographers with different editing styles, skills, and experience.

Primarily the biggest struggle I’ve had is obtaining clients when being restricted to a “weekends only” availability. With working a full time job and doing photography on the weekends, it limits my bookings and ability to focus on photography completely full time as I would like. However, a goal of mine is to change that within the next few years.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in a warm, moody editing style that reflects the natural beauty and tones of Arizona’s desert landscape. Outdoor sessions are where my work truly shines, as I love discovering unique locations and hidden pockets of light that create naturally beautiful, timeless images.

What I value most about my journey as a photographer is my commitment to pursuing my passion regardless of life’s challenges or limitations. My grandfather, who passed away in 2024, always encouraged me by saying I had a natural eye for lighting. His belief in me continues to inspire my work today, and I believe that attention to light is one of the qualities that truly sets my photography apart.

Along with my artistic approach, I bring a relaxed and lighthearted energy to every session. My playful personality helps create a comfortable environment, especially for children, allowing me to capture genuine smiles and authentic moments for families to treasure.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising most people might not know about me, is that I love rockhounding/purchasing crystals. I think they are absolutely beautiful, and it is so fun to find them out in nature!
