Rising Stars: Meet Bieunkah Anwojue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bieunkah Anwojue.

Bieunkah Anwojue

Hi Bieunkah , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an Author and Illustrator who started designing paper goods after noticing the lack of diversity in products such as greeting cards. It was important to me for my children and other kids to be able to see themselves represented, so in addition to paper products, I started creating coloring books and journals that not only motivated adults and children, but also featured drawings that made them feel proud to be who they are. Since then, I have been featured in publications such as Black Enterprise, ConAir’s Remarkable Women, One’s to Watch and more. This year, I will begin teaching art techniques and showing others how to create interesting characters.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! Being a small business owner is challenging. There have been days where I just wanted to give up, but I always think about why I started and who I am doing this for. The good days have outweighed the bad and I am grateful for that. No matter how hard the road gets along the way, there are people who are watching me and rooting for me even harder. GOD did not give me this gift and these ideas for me to waste.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create magic! ” I illustrate for myself and others. On the product side, I create greeting cards, notepads, books, and more. On the service side, I freelance as an artist and designer to help others bring their projects to life. That could be creating illustrations for a book, designing a flyer for marketing material, etc… I also offer 1-on-1 coaching calls for people who want to publish a book and/or just have business questions that they need answered. This year, I started doing Author Visits to schools where I share my books, give them a lesson on drawing basics and teach them about Affirmations and Gratitude. I am most proud that my children have seen the work that I have done and have gone on to create their own books. What sets me apart is my Why! I want to be that beacon of light that people can look for to know that although today may be tough, there is still hope for tomorrow. My motto is “Create the Magic that you want to see in the world!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
As I have grown over the years, I think it is more about putting in the work and being prepared than luck. Sometimes, there may be a dash of luck and you get a big opportunity, but you still have to be ready for it, so that comes from being consistent in going after your dreams, persistent in getting your name out there and resilient! It’s ok to cross your fingers and hope for luck, but be fearless in going after the things that set your soul on fire. The rewards from that is the luck!
