Rising Stars: Meet Bethany Hicks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Hicks.

Hi Bethany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My story started many years ago and has taken me on many paths to get where I am today. I have been pursuing photography for about ten years now. I started out taking nature photos but now I am doing Food photography and Portrait photography and I don’t think I’ll ever truly look back.

I believe that my feet have landed on these two types of photography due to my college education. I knew I wanted to work with people but didn’t know exactly how and food photography was a class I had to take. I didn’t realize how rewarding for it to be when someone see my photos and says “Well now I’m hungry.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say for the most part it’s been an easy road minus dealing with imposter syndrome and thinking that my photography work wasn’t good enough and that I wouldn’t go anywhere with it. Those thoughts have challenged me more than I would like to admit. They also have made me debate continuing my work in the photography field.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is kind of all over the place. I don’t like to limit myself on what I can photograph as I feel like I’m limiting my creativity. My favorite type of photography is working with couples or soon-to-be graduating students. I love the energy and creativity that my clients and I create.

If they want to try something that I’ve never done I’m usually down. If they want to stick with what they know I’m good at I’m still going to get them involved in my creative process. I feel like how I work with my clients is how I set myself apart.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love interacting with people so if they want to go on Instagram or Facebook and engage with my content that would be amazing. I also have recently started posting images to Pinterest so if they are looking for photo ideas adding my image to their boards would mean a lot.
