Today we’d like to introduce you to Audra Romeo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Brooklyn with a close-knit huge Italian family. We always ate good homemade food and desserts.
Over the years those desserts and sweets caught up to me. Growing up, the fat kid wasn’t fun. Luckily the weight started coming off in my teens and once I hit 18, I started to hit the gym. Back then, around 1984, there were only a few gyms such as Jack LaLane and Elaine Powers and aerobics were all the rage! That’s where my love of fitness began. From then through college, full-time jobs, marriage, children, divorce, and a move from NY to AZ working out has always been in my life.
My workouts over the years have varied and my knowledge has increased exponentially. Fast forward to the present. I now have a Health Coach certification as well as a Personal Training Certification. I currently have personal clients and teach HIIT classes three nights a week at Esporta in Surprise.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has never been a smooth one. My outlook is always positive and I don’t give up. I do have doubts about myself and once I stop internalizing and process, I continue along my path and go down the road that has been put forth.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I really enjoy the 1:1 or 1:2 of personal training. I truly get to know my clients and journey with them as they begin their fitness and health routines.
I specialize in training clients who are new to fitness or those who have had previous injuries and are returning to fitness. I choose to work with these clients because I want to be with them from the very beginning and watch them hit milestones and goals.
What sets me apart from other trainers is that I don’t limit my clients to a certain age group. I work with kids as well as seniors and I work out with the client. I see trainers tell their clients what to do, maybe fix their form, shout out a few accolades, and call it a day. I do all the exercises with them so they feel like they have a workout buddy and accountability partner.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I’m definitely not a risk-taker. I’m one of those go with the flow type of people and go with what feels right. Everyone’s view on risk is different and I admire those who take risks and succeed as well as those who take risks and don’t succeed but keep ongoing.
