Rising Stars: Meet Anna Liljestrand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Liljestrand.

Anna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have worked as a hairstylist in Copenhagen, Stockholm, and New York City, and now I travel back and forth between NYC and Phoenix as a hairstylist for photoshoots and fashion shows. I have a varied background, working in the graphic industry, and has created artwork using a variety of different mediums. It is my love for art that influences my work as a hairstylist, I try to blends my love of art into hairstyling work, creating elegant styles for all occasions. I received my license as a stylist in 2004 and my Master License in 2014. I love creating new and exciting looks, and it is my love of artistry and working with great artists that pushes me to excel in my craft.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I moved to the US five years ago from Sweden with very little connections here. To establish a good platform with other artists/publications/ photographers can be an obstacle but I look upon it as a challenge.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love creating avant guard hairstyles, Knowledge of proportions, shapes and how to make it work and come to life in front of the camera, styles that push me to figure out shapes, work that transforms into a piece of art in itself.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be scared to ask for help, the chances are very high someone will be willing to help you but if you never ask, be 100% assured you’ll get nothing. Volunteer to assist others, be a sponge and learn as much as you can. Always be humble, very few people enjoy working with a diva, and be open to continuously learning. The day you stop learning is the day you should probably look for another career.
