Hi Allahsha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Fashion has always been my passion. Back in high school, I was known for ripping and bleaching denim jeans for my friends when that look was all the style. This early creativity sparked my journey into the world of fashion, leading me to pursue a degree in Fashion and Merchandise, with a minor in Business Administration, at the Illustrious Morgan State University.

During my time at Morgan, I focused primarily on tailoring. Juggling my coursework and an active campus life left little room for full garment production, so I dedicated myself to perfecting my tailoring skills. After graduating in 2019, I took a semester off before enrolling in the MBA program at Webster University. While I was pursuing my Masters degree is where I began to explore creating complete garments.

In 2020, I fully committed to my vision, diving into the world of custom clothing. My specialty is creating unique, one-of-one streetwear pieces. What sets my business apart is that each garment I produce is distinct—while there may be similarities, no two items are ever identical. My aim is for every customer to own their own exclusive HemHers piece.

Since launching HemHers, I’ve witnessed tremendous growth and resilience within myself. This journey has been an inspiring one, and I’m deeply thankful for the experiences it has brought me. I recognize that there’s still so much to learn, and I’m grateful that God continues to prepare me for every blessing that comes my way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been easy—nothing in life ever is. I’ve faced my share of challenges along the way. Starting out on my own right after college, I quickly realized that my vision was bigger than my budget for fabrics. I had to adjust my approach and find a different path. The lack of support has been also challenging at times, but I believe people are starting to notice that I’m determined to push through despite it.

Marketing was another hurdle for me, as I’m naturally introverted. I knew I needed to step outside my comfort zone and adopt an alter ego to promote my work and make it visible to others. That has been my biggest struggle, but it’s also been a crucial part of my growth.

At HemHers, we specialize in one-of-a-kind streetwear pieces that reflect individuality and personal style. Each garment I create is crafted with attention to detail and a commitment to uniqueness—no two pieces are ever the same. This custom approach allows my clients to express their identity through fashion, ensuring they own something truly special.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe resilience is the most important characteristic for my success. The journey in fashion is filled with challenges, from navigating market demands to overcoming personal hurdles. Staying adaptable and maintaining a positive outlook has allowed me to learn from setbacks and keep moving forward.

Equally important is being receptive—open to feedback, new ideas, and opportunities for growth. This openness helps me refine my craft and stay connected with my customers.

Additionally, my faith plays a vital role in my journey. Staying close to God provides me with strength and guidance, reminding me to trust the process and embrace each step along the way. This combination of resilience, receptiveness, and faith is what drives me to build HemHers into a brand that celebrates individuality and creativity.
