Meet Zen Berk of Zenberkphotography in Arcadia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zen Berk.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Zen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for photography started when I was 12 years old. The idea of capturing a moment, a memory, or a feeling was incredible to me. Even though I couldn’t verbally express that when I was 12, the feeling has never changed. I love to scroll through my photos and see all the exciting memories I have created or captured. A lot of people ask me “what does it take to be a photographer?’, and I have always had the same response. I believe anyone can be a photographer, everyone has a different view of this world and can absolutely share it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t say it has. Photography is very competitive and starting out as a young photographer is hard. I didn’t know what I liked to shoot for years, there are so many routes one can take to find their path in photography. Some of the struggles I’ve had along the way is asking myself if these photos are good enough and how I can do better. You don’t always have somebody next to you telling you what they think of your photos and what you can do to improve on.

Please tell us about your work.
I would classify myself has a candid photographer for “in the moment” photos. I use all natural light in my photos with very little editing done if any. I’m proud to say I’ve had the opportunity to work with several other artists in the valley!

What role has luck had in your life and business?
As a photographer, you have the risk of your equipment being broken. I would say that I’m lucky this has not happened yet.
