Today we’d like to introduce you to Yo Clark.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My given name is Ariel, but I am more commonly known as “Yo”. It’s a nickname I have had since I was born and it’s what all my homies call me. Someday, maybe I’ll name a daughter Ariel so she can live out all the mermaid dreams (and pick up lines) that I never got a chance to. I grew up in a tiny town in the middle of Nowhere, Idaho for the first half of my life and finished middle school and high school in Southern California. It was a serious life- altering change of pace, but I will always be grateful for the opportunity of experiencing the best of both worlds. After college, my husband and I took a leap of faith and moved to Mesa. I didn’t know a single person and was literally living off of a honeymoon high and lots of prayers. However, after surviving my first Arizona summer, I began making friends and building up a small community around me. Who knew that not even four years later I wouldn’t hesitate to claim Arizona and my forever home.
Please tell us about your art.
I make gourmet caramel apples. I use Granny Smith apples and soft homemade caramel to create the perfect balance of tartness and sweet. I’m just doing my civic duty, changing lives one bite at a time!
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
My success is defined through connecting with others through a product they enjoy! I always want to provide 100% customer satisfaction, but I also want each customer to feel appreciated, uplifted, and unique.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My apples are available to order through my website www.notyourgrannysapples.com for local pick up in Mesa or shipping anywhere in the continental United States. I also have apples available to purchase in Gilbert and Mesa. Sweetz Brew Cafe on Gilbert Rd. and Guadalupe Rd and the Down-east retail store in San Tan Village in Gilbert. As well as in downtown Mesa at Moondust Farms. Instagram is also a great way to stay updated and connected with me!
