Meet Xochitl Avila of Point Weddings & Events Rocky Point

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xochitl Avila.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Xochitl. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Puerto Peñasco in 2013, captivated by the vibe of the destiny and determined to maximize its potential.

I´m a designer by profession. “It’s my passion. I’ve been designing since I was a kid, my career goes back long before I studied it. I have it in my blood and was always attracted to colors, textiles and spaces. ”

My biggest challenge has been arriving to Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco) in the middle of an economic recession. I had to work hard to pay for a certification as a wedding planner at the Institute of Art and Design in New York and it was a real challenge, one that I feel very proud of today.

If I could define myself in three words, I think they could be: passionate, perfectionist and creative.

My favorite hobbies are travel and eat (LOL). I enjoy the flavors, each combination moves me and both are sources of inspiration. I love to enjoy different cuisines. Just as I have a small space in my work season I try to travel, get to know other cultures, cities, music, and bring back trends with me that can be applied to my events.

As for the wedding design, there are several styles. However, when you have knowledge about design it is impossible not to create unique things for each event. There are trends and influences that can attract several couples, and that’s fine, but personal details give it the touch of originality. I am ecclectic, I love to combine styles, tables and create new elements. If I had to be defined by a style it would be very indie, super millennian and boho; I think those type of customers and I click immediately, we stay tuned from day one. The nature of Puerto Peñasco gives you a great setting. I love holding events with a style that fits the destination. When I design, I seek to potentiate/optimize the space and obtain a synergy so that everything looks spectacular.

Six years after starting this full race, four years with my own brand “Point Weddings Rocky Point”, I feel happy and complete, but I think I have a long way to go. I’m still learning something new every day and whenever I’m losing my temper, a phone call to mom and dad brings my essence back, my self.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely not been easy. It is difficult for people to believe in you when you’re starting, you accept payments that are not worth all the work you do to be able to have samples of your work.

It is not easy to pay courses and certifications when you do not have many clients at the beginning, but the best feeling is when your clients recommend you with their friends and family for your great work and the experience they had working with you.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is based on the design, planning and coordination of weddings and events, It sounds very similar but there are three completely different concepts and each one requires extensive experience.

Every single detail, from creative conception to technical and executive management, is aimed at creating unparalleled and memorable experiences. The wide variety of amazing places at the destination I work allow me to do this. The beaches, desert, gardens and luxury hotels are the perfect spot for any kind of event.

Point Weddings has the experience to work an event from 0, study your budget, been honest and clear with you, design it according to your taste (sometimes the event looks more like the planner and not client style), maximize service and quality with suppliers and items.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
As a foreigner in this country I can say that Arizona is one of the best states to visit and live in. It is connected to everything and at the same time it gives you peace of mind, you can go to the beach just in 4 hours or go to the mountains in two.

I think it is a city that gives opportunities to everyone who wants to take them, and my type of service is no exception. There are so many people with different styles, tastes and beliefs that allow them to select what is ideal for each one.

Always giving the opportunity to the one who decide just to start.
