Meet William Johnston of Johnston & Co in Gilbert, AZ

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Johnston.

Thanks for sharing your story with us William . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I was always involved in the restaurant business. My dad has played a huge roll in my life as he is a restauranteur and someone who has been heavily involved in cultivating community. I worked in some of his restaurants in various positions as I also wanted to have my own restaurants one day.

Over the years and after my wife and I had a couple kids, I started to realize that the restaurant industry was one that I loved but struggled to keep a proper work/life balance, so I started to think about what other things might be a good fit for my skill set. I went to ASU W.P. Carey School of Business and have a Business Administration degree, so it made sense to begin working with our family real estate development company.

Since then, I have worked on a handful of commercial projects and enjoy creating unique spaces that are a benefit to everyone involved.

Has it been a smooth road?
If the road was always smooth, it would be boring.

The road has been bumpy at times, smooth at other times and everything in-between. Struggles along the way are a variety of failures, but I wouldn’t change the past because I have learned from the mistakes I make.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Johnston & Co – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Johnston & Co. is a company that focusses on innovation and development. I am heavily involved in the development of unique commercial properties. I am in charge of the day to day advancement of our company.

We are known for the Master Planned Development Agritopia in Gilbert. We are working on the final piece of that Development right now…the Epicenter, which is a high-end vertical mixed use project.

I am proud of how we try to encourage people to get out of their comfort zones and live lives that have connection to other people and the places they come in contact with. This is also what sets us apart.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the fact that we live in a diverse and unique city that has all sorts of amazing people and delicious food offerings!

My least favorite thing about the Phoenix Metro area is…nothing really! I love where I live.
