Meet Voight Thornton of Sixmic Films in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Voight Thornton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Voight. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I get asked how I came up with the company name 6MIC FILMS. I have been dee jaying since college in 1999 and in the dorms I would always practice during the week and weekends and usually my music was pretty loud during those sessions.

My Resident Advisor (RA) came by and asked if I could turn down my music because it sounded like a seismic earthquake in her room. I thought that was funny so I used the DJ Moniker ‘DJ SEISMIC’ from the moment on and it stuck.

When I started the film company in 2006 I just broke down the word SEIS (6) MIC for the film name and it caught on from there!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been an easy time creating Sixmic Films. Started off by shooting small concert venues from small handy cams to larger sets in California. Also, went through not connecting with a very talented team in Albuquerque, New Mexico that we just didn’t see eye to etc. but had a lot of National success in video. I have learned a lot and wish the best for everyone just was not meant to be. My new concentration has been the corporate sector and has been successful working with a lot of great clients in Phoenix and California.
