Meet Shalis Stinson of Vita Wellness in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalis Stinson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Dr. Pacheco and I were working together at a medical center in the spring of 2013 while I was working on my doctoral study regarding weight loss, depression, and biometrics. He and I decided to apply the preliminary study results and make a weight loss competition out of it to engage all staff into making positive health changes and an effort to improve their well being.

After several months of the competition and seeing the tremendous results of not only weight loss and improvement in biometrics, but also a change in self-esteem and mind-body transformation, Dr. Pacheco and I began to brainstorm how to create a wellness center to serve a larger population.

Within one year of our initial conversation, we opened the doors for business, Our primary focus at the opening was weight loss and life coaching which has grown to now include a variety of services such as weight loss, life coaching, aesthetics, and training. Hormone replacement therapy, tanning, and infusions will also be part of the services offered at Vita Wellness in the near future.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some of the obstacles we encountered were deciding on the marketing strategy, identifying the needs and wants of the community, and some of the logistics such as space and supply chain management.

Vita Wellness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As mentioned, we specialize in weight loss and aesthetics. We offer a variety of personalized services in both English and Spanish. This is one of the many reasons we are set apart from other businesses that may offer the same services. Dr. Pacheco was a mental health therapist before becoming a board-certified internal medicine physician and I have been a registered nurse in emergency medicine, behavioral health, and executive management before obtaining my doctorate in behavioral health.

Our unique backgrounds allow us to help individuals transform mentally and physically. We take pride in personally seeing all patients for each visit whether a simple injection or full treatment.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our success is determined by the success of our clients. When they are happy and satisfied with their results, indicated through repeat business, referrals, or feedback, we recognize this behavior as a marker of success.
