Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Adams.
Ron, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started the media company back in 2009 as a publisher of sports car travel guidebooks. During this period we published three guidebooks and received a number of accolades and I even appeared on Jay Leno’s Garage after the release of the Car Lover’s Guide to Southern Germany. The publication of guidebooks ended in 2013 and Via Corsa magazine debuted in 2015. To date we have published a dozen quarterly issues and we are carried nationwide in all Barnes and Noble Bookstores as well as Walmart, Walmart Canada, select Kroger grocery stores and Hudson News Stands in airports.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The publication of guidebooks was incredibly difficult. We were an unknown publisher trying to get shelf space in book stores and it was nearly impossible. Currently the magazine business fares better but is faced with the trend for people to seek digital content over print. This problem is of course something that faces the entire industry and not just us. Fortunately what we are doing to keep an interest in our print magazine is to offer unique and timeless content that is relevant far beyond the shelf life of the magazine issue. In other words we love to tell great stories from around the world to our readers.
Via Corsa Magazine – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our magazine, Via Corsa, is the only “post purchase” car magazine in today’s market place. What we mean by that is we cater to the enthusiast once he buys his dream car. Our question to our readers is this – “You just bought you dream car and it’s there in your garage. Now what?” The car magazines on newsstands today help buyers research and purchase their next car. They offer road tests, comparisons, reviews, and shoot outs. But what we do is show you how to enjoy it and go on an adventure! So it doesn’t matter what kind of car you have as we feel our content applies to any enthusiast owning really any brand.
We have four main themes that we cover in our magazine. People, places, events, and drives. We interview people who are enthusiastic about the car – Jay Leno and Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top have both appeared in our magazine as have countless enthusiast’s owners. We cover places such as restaurants, car museums, and race tracks. Most of the events we cover are concours related but also include hill climbs to races and lastly drives. We travel around the world in search of the best roads and road trips to cover and bring to our readers.
To date my contributors and even myself have traveled around the world covering everything from the Peking to Paris Road Rally, The Ferrari Tribute to the Mille Miglia in Italy, the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, and the Le Mans Classic in France to name just a few. We personally have driven everything from a Model T Ford in Yosemite National Park to a Land Rover through the Scottish Moors to a drifting a Ferrari GTC4Lusso in the middle of winter in the Italian Alps.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To have been asked by Jay Leno to appear on Jay Leno’s Garage.
