Hi Ursula, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I am a woman, a wife, a mother, a soon-to-be grandmother, a doula, a caregiver, and a business owner. I have helped more than 4,000 families navigate their pregnancy, birth, and recovery. One day, a friend asked me to attend the birth of her second baby for extra support. At the birth, I “caught the baby” and caught a passion for helping serve families during a pivotal moment in their lives was “born”.

In that instant, I understood how one moment could change a whole family’s trajectory. I realized I could change the world—for the better—one birth at a time. I studied to become a certified doula.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As time passed, and the desire to work with me grew, I built a team of wonderful certified doulas to address the needs of our community. Finding and building a team of expert, passionate individuals is no small feat. It took time, mistakes, and growth, but our team is all that and more.

I can say that you can trust us to come into your space and respect it. To treat you as an individual and address your needs with compassion and expertise.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Birth You Desire® was founded in 1999. Since then, I have personally attended over 1,500 births and my team has helped more than 6,000 families have the births they desired. The Birth You Desire® team of 24 doulas—with more than 250 years of collective expertise in all types of birth (low risk to high risk, hospital, birth centers, and home)—supports clients from conception through recovery.

This genuinely collaborative practice has the most experienced doulas and team in the U.S. With a Birth You Desire® doula at your side, you are in the best hands possible. We have experience in all birth locations (hospital, birth center, and home) and all scenarios from high-risk to low-risk. We have two teams. Our Phoenix metropolitan area team serves all of Phoenix and our Wahington DC metro area team services DC, Maryland, and northern Virginia.

The first tip I have is to know your passion. The second is to have a network of trusted, vetted people to support you and your clients. The third is that it is okay to stretch and fail. It is human to make mistakes but it is a skill to learn from them.
