Meet Tyra Johnson of Poshe Boutique & Beauty Health in South Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Johnson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tyra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey began when I had a mini break down due to being on kid number 2 at 23, married with no plan. Just being a wife and a mom was all I had focused on for 3 years. Never took time to figure things out for myself. The day after my breakdown I researched, wrote out things I liked and loved and sat on it for a few days. I realized all things Beauty & fashion was my passion. I started seeing eyelash extensions was the new thing. I thought to myself I think I would love to do that. I looked up what I needed to do to learn lashes and do lashes and in the state of Arizona you must be a licensed esthetician. I look up esthetics programs in my area and I toured and enrolled. It was then I found my true passion. I fell in love with skin care. I found that beauty starts from within, its Self-care. Now I’m a licensed esthetician and through the year I have been working on my own beauty line called Poshe Beauty. My journey was trial and error. But I didn’t stop I kept going to discover what my passion was.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wasted a lot of money trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I thought a clothing boutique was the route I wanted to go but it wasn’t. When I figured out it’s the beauty line, I wanted sampling products, investing in creating products, is even more money. Even though this wasn’t a waste there were times where I was using the last of what I had to try to get samples and inventory to sell. Not having a savings or money set aside and starting from the bottom has been the biggest struggle. But it’s all been worth it because my beauty line is so far a success and growing every day.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Poshe Boutique & Beauty Health story. Tell us more about the business.
I do two things that work under one business. I work with factories and chemist to formulate my own makeup line and I’m a license esthetician offering services. Poshe is still growing and I have other plans and ideas once I complete other ones first. As of now I formulate and sell makeup cosmetics such as lipgloss and mascara and I have an eyelash strip line. Services I offer are facials and body waxing. A lot of women are in this industry and sell items that I offer so right now I’m working on a project to help set myself aside and soon will have a store front to shop these items directly. Every month I’m adding new items. Eventually it will be an entire cosmetic line to shop from.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m a now single mom and I still work a full-time job in property management. So, working full time, raising two toddlers and trying to run a business is exhausting but I’m excited for the reward in the future. My kids are what pushes me. They are the reason for all of this. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t know what route I would have gone. That mini break down occurred because I wanted better for my family.
