Meet Troy Hurley in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Hurley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Troy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Modeling stumbled upon interestingly to where it happened perfectly: I gradually developed the love and curiosity of photography and fashion. Through photography, I always thought it was refreshing to have the opportunity of telling a story or articulating a type of mood/emotion through a picture – it’s amazing! In regards to fashion, I believe showcasing your uniqueness through pieces of clothing is a great way to transparency. And through transparency, comes understanding.

So, as time progressed, I started to become passionate about modeling and having the ability to create with other creators without judgment. I have been a freelance model for roughly three years and enjoy it entirely!

Has it been a smooth road?
For anything that you’re passionate and would want to succeed badly in, there are always (or the majority of the time) going to be times where adversity happens; however, through trials and tribulations comes growth and tremendous success (personally and professionally).

A humbling struggle I’ve gone through was finding the balance through work & modeling. As of today, I work at American Express as a data analyst, so sometimes my schedule becomes completely busy. However, I’m definitely appreciative with having the ability to work.

Another struggle I’ve gone through was developing grit and perseverance. When modeling, essentially you’re an entrepreneur due to building relationships that will help progress your career, developing and protecting your brand/image and constructing your business from the ground up. Many companies, clothing brands, modeling agencies, etc. are going to reject you, but through rejection, comes opportunities. If you believe you bring something unique to whomever you come into contact with, then continuously work hard for what you believe in.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I would consider myself as a creator. I utilize modeling as a route to experience different aspects of life. Modeling has been a platform for me to branch out to expand my interests and newly discovered talents: I’ve had the opportunity to photograph models, presently style Brett Hundley, an NFL quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, assist my girlfriend, Steph Rosa with fashion shows and many more which I have not discovered yet!

What essentially sets me apart from the mass is my bazaar obsession with boots and denim-on-denim collection. I try to find the most ridiculous and smooth boots (preferably Calvin Klein) I can find and try to match it with a sleek yet dingy denim-on-denim look. Through my unique style, I’ve had the style to collaborate with Daniel Wellington. I will work with Calvin Klein in the near future (speaking into existence and fingers crossed).

Is there something we can do as a city to improve the outlook for businesses like yours?
I believe Arizona is showing great potential in fashion and photography. I’ve been living here in the state majority of my life, and I believe many people are moving from California and the east due to Arizona’s cost of living. So, with everyone moving here, new insights are brought into the fashion industry and plenty of opportunities are heavily formed because of the high demand in the fashion industry. Us, Arizonans, have to be patient, optimistic and open-minded to the new strategic changes that could progressively move Arizona in the right direction.

As a passionate model, many believe Los Angeles and New York are the destinations one needs to go to become successful; however, many creators have humbling started their careers out in Arizona (for example Alton Mason who is now a supermodel).
