Meet Trell Hayes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trell Hayes.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always loved taking pictures whether that be of food, friends, scenery, you name it! When I was in high school, I believe during my sophomore year, I randomly decided to add a digital photography elective to my schedule not really thinking much of it since my main interest was in basketball. Once I started taking the class, I really felt like I had found what I would want to do as a professional. However, after I graduated, I continued my path with basketball at SMCC and Glendale CC where I didn’t have any extra time for photography. It wasn’t until after I completely stopped playing basketball because I wanted to work full time that I went back into photography. This time I had made my mind up to never stop!

Last year, I finally decided to purchase my very first DSLR kit (Nikon D5300). I hadn’t taken any classes or went to photography school since high school so I was fresh but I knew it was the right move! Every day, I dedicated time to search YouTube for guides on Adobe, shooting in manual, the best how to videos and techniques so I could improve my skills as best I could. I went from shooting just about everything to now focusing mainly on portrait work and expanding my creativity.

Please tell us about your art.
I do portrait photography and brand ambassador/influencer but my capabilities are limitless since I try to be as versatile as possible. I love creating photos that bring an urban, street style vibe and most times have vibrant, popping colors. My inspiration can come from just about anything like nature, music, like-minded artist or even a movie I’ve seen.

The only message I have to give to anyone is to lets your creativity flow, be happy and love whatever it is you do! If you can wake up each day with a sense of urgency to want to perfect your craft then always remind yourself “it’s for the passion and fire you hold inside”!

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I believe one of the biggest challenges facing artist today, specifically in Arizona is having the right resources and financial market to support.
