Meet Jennifer Talbot of Transcend Studios in San Tan Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Talbot.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Kanab Utah moved to Anchorage Alaska at 12 then to Gilbert at 17. I had wanted to be a hairdresser since I was five years old and went to beauty school right after graduating from Gilbert High School in 1992. I got my license in 1993 and from there worked at many salons with none ever feeling like home. In early 2000’s I went through a divorce and old family trauma came to the surface and I found myself an alcoholic & practically homeless trying to ease the mental and physical pain. I went through many things that taught me more and more about myself and was able to clean myself up.

When I turned 32 I met my husband Mark Goodman which forever changed my life for the better, and at 33 I gave birth to my son, Grayson Goodman and he was my miracle baby. I had a hard pregnancy almost losing him at 26 weeks then again at 28. He was born healthy at 38 weeks 8 pounds 7oz. In 2011 we moved to Lynden Washington where I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis and went into depression but through great doctors and medication I was able to not be in the great physical pain I once was. My husband built a salon studio in our home where I was able to work on friends and missionaries from my church and I started to learn more about myself as a wife, mom, business owner, friend, and volunteer.

While in Lynden I met an amazing woman Celeste Mergens founder of Days for Girls International a nonprofit foundation that provides sustainable feminine hygiene kits to women and girls around the world who have no access to whatever works for her. Celeste like me had gone through some same traumas and was able to teach me things I needed to be able to fully understand myself; she gave me the tools I never had and taught me more about making my dreams come true. My time with DfG was an incredible learning experience which I know gave me the tools to run my business today.

We moved back to San Tan Valley in summer of 2016 and I was contacted about buying the salon. My husband and I discussed this option and in April of 2017, I became the owner of my own salon Transcend Studios. My ultimate dream had been met and I dove head first and what a ride it has been so far with many ups and downs but the main constant was two of my employees Gabriana Fregoso and Brianna Lozada, I know we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of these two amazing women! We are now in our second year and with so many clients and friends support we are finding great successes every day. Our clients who have been with us from the beginning have been a huge support and are always cheering us on and letting us know how proud they are of our achievements in such a short time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth with things that we had no idea of and things we did know and just kept pushing through each and everything that came our way. Finances started to become a struggle but we just worked harder, summers are very slow and we did what we could to stay busy. I looked into business loans to help ease some struggles which came right when we needed them the most.

Transcend Studios – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Transcend Studios is a premier salon that provides all beauty services with our focus on color specialization. We now offer new services ranging from aesthetics to microblading and lashes, with more new services coming soon! We are most proud of our wins and successes and our continued learning so we can always be the best at what we do.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define my level of success on the success of my workers. We are a rental salon, so everyone works for themselves but we are still a team who look out for one another and is only as successful as we are talented. We always are trying to improve ourselves and our salon so our clients can be confident with their stylist and aesthetic persons. We strive always to provide the best of the best and always will strive to do so.
