Meet Trailblazer Tanya Mason

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Mason.

Tanya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began doing hair as a young girl at the age of 10 as a hobby. The calming of doing hair for me lead me into the idea of charging for my time and work. This happened back in 1987. From there, I began practicing in my home while working for the City of Denver full time for 10 years. Over the course of time, I obtained a clientele base. This leads me to want a license so then registered for Cosmetology School in 2006. I graduated with Honors in 2008 and became licensed. This was the year I began and established the at-home salon I called Tanya Does Hair, LLC. In 2011 I thought it would be fun to become an educator for Empire Beauty School and was hired as a beginner Educator. I quit after 94 days and went back to running my at-home salon. In 2016, I was forced into a commercial Sola Salon Suite which I currently own and operate in Greenwood Village, CO. Since then, I have discovered and developed a brand new evolution of hair care I have named Holistic Hair Care and the all-new AMAZING MYWater Leave-in Hair Solution.

I launched the website www.tanyadoeshairllc.com in July of 2018 and since have an increase in clients and sales of MYWater. I proclaim to the New Age Madam C.J. Walker. I have developed a reputation of being a pioneer for the textured hair community who advocates for safe and mild hair care.

Has it been a smooth road?
Staring something so non-adaptive and new is the hardest thing to do in the beauty industry. My passion and faith have kept me focused and going. Sometimes, your own ideas aren’t productive and can lead to frustration and the feeling of defeat. But if you believe in what you are doing, the passion within will motivate you to keep going.

Advice to another woman: whatever you do in life, keep God in it. Do not let anyone discourage you from pursuing your dream. My dream is to become a Master Educator for the Beauty Industry.

I am a Master Holistic Textured Hair Specialist who owns and operates a salon suite who caters to the healthy hair mindsets. I am known for my ability to educate and share my knowledge and experiences with my clients. I am most proud of being the discoverer of an all new hair care regime by use of just shampoo and MYWater. I have created the mildest safest hair care service in the world called The MYWater Experience. I am also very proud of developing a training course offered to other licensed professionals.

What sets me apart from others is that I am the only salon who does not use conditioner. I am the only hair care provider who can complete a client in an hour or less.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women are the catalyst to the future because we are life bearers and the teachers of the world.
