Meet Trailblazer Sarah Sanders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Sanders.

Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After graduating with a degree in interior design, I moved to Arizona and began working on corporate interiors. Although I enjoyed commercial design, I knew I wanted to broaden my focus to also include residential projects. This is how Sanders Design Studio began. Now, with over a decade in the industry, I take on a variety of commercial, residential, new construction, and renovations! Every project is unique and every day is full of new challenges and rewards! I love creating spaces that are beautiful and functional, but most importantly, they reflect my clients’ individuality!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, no road worth traveling is smooth, right? There are days when I feel so fulfilled and others when I’m ready to retire already! The struggle to find a business when you are just opening your doors is always scary. I think networking and putting yourself out there helps tremendously! And confidence is key!

We’d love to hear more about Sanders Design Studio.
As an interior designer, I love to help my clients transform their space into something that brings them joy every time they step into it! I specialize in a variety of styles, as no two clients are the same and I believe everyone deserves a space that is unique to them! I am proud to say that during the design process, I develop great friendships with my clients and this breeds so much trust! Trust is paramount for a truly great end result!

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think women can be well-suited for positions when there is an emotional aspect to it. Residential design is an extremely emotional field! You are dealing with peoples’ homes… the place where they live, laugh, love, cry, fight, etc. This is extremely rewarding, but I have found myself acting as a counselor on occasion! (Ha!)
