Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Sandberg.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Pamela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating from law school, I spent several years practicing law, but never stopped indulging in my love of real estate. I decided to make the switch to a career in which I could engage my passion for real estate while still utilizing my legal background. Now, I work with buyers, sellers, and investors to find properties that are a perfect match for their needs. I offer legal, real estate and design advice, which gives my clients a full-service experience in the home buying process.
Has it been a smooth road?
Getting started in the legal profession was a challenge. In many ways, it is still an “old boys’ club.” My advice is to be persistent, and not get discouraged by the setbacks along the way. It is also important to find a working environment that is suited to your particular needs. For example: young female attorneys may not enjoy working in a firm with all male partners over the age of 60. But there are also many female-driven firms that could provide a better experience. Be creative in creating your situation!
It was also a challenge to make the change from a full-time legal career to a full-time real estate career. This was definitely a leap of faith! My advice to women contemplating a career change is to have plenty of faith in yourself and believe that you *can* do it. It is also important to plan for such a change carefully. Without the support of my infinitely patient husband and new colleagues (who have created a wonderful, positive environment) it would have been a much more difficult transition.
We’d love to hear more about Tru Realty.
I am fortunate to be able to provide my real estate clients with a wide range of services. There are a lot of realtors in the Phoenix area, but not many of them can also provide legal and design advice!
I am proud of the vision that I offer my clients. It can be hard to see the potential in an old, run-down home. I help my clients envision beautiful renovations and functionality. I also help them put together creative financing and legal solutions to put together deals that work for them. This opens the door for much more fun, exciting possibilities!
Which women have inspired you in your life?
I am most inspired by the women who were forced to build their career amidst a sea of men. Sandra Day O’Connor got stellar grades at Stanford Law, but after graduation, law firms would only hire her as an assistant. She opened her own practice and took every client who came through her door. She fought hard to build a legal career at a time when there were few – if any – female lawyers. I may not agree with all of her politics, but I respect the journey she made to pave the way for other female attorneys and Supreme Court justices.
