Meet Trailblazer Nicole Petculescu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Petculescu.

Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My friends and I are all self-proclaimed foodies; we know how to eat.

So naturally, when we get together, there will be some serious noshing going on. Snack boards are my go-to. They can house a variety of flavors and for that reason, they can please a diverse crowd of taste buds, making sure everyone gets something they enjoy on their plate. My now business partner (Andrew Kuhn) text me late one night and asked: “why aren’t we delivering these to people?”. He was right. There was a niche that wasn’t being fulfilled and we, along with Andrews wife and co-owner, Kasie Lambros, could do just that. Kasie and I both have creative backgrounds, and I personally have a culinary background as well, so the combination was just perfect.

Within 2 months, we were up and running. We secured a location with everything we need to make charcuterie magic happen, and the response was overwhelming. We love this city and have had such a great time creating these delicious boards for our fellow Phoenicians.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have certainly had our share of struggles, as with any small business. Finding a reasonable location was one of them, along with finding appropriate vendors and keeping our business as sustainable as possible. We are very serious about reducing plastic waste, so making sure we keep the environment in mind is definitely something we strive to do.

Our advice to young women is to set goals and meet them with fervor. You can achieve things that seem like pipe-dreams if you just stay focused on them. It takes a tremendous amount of work and time to own a business, but the reward of making something you love for a living is greater yet. The satisfaction of being your own boss is unrivaled.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Nosh Board – what should we know?
In essence, we make and deliver decadent charcuterie boards. I don’t know of any other business in the Phoenix Metro area that does that. We specialize in creating tantalizing food boards for any occasion you can fathom. We also offer custom boards, so if you have a theme you’re hoping to uphold, we can accommodate that request. We are very proud to use mostly local sources for our ingredients. Our city has a great many noble farmers, bakers and beekeepers, so we feel very passionate about utilizing their produce for our boards. All other ingredients are imported from their country of origin, which gives our gourmet boards a sense of authenticity.

When people gather together when there is bread being broken, something beyond simple sustenance is happening; and if we can be a part of that moment while adding a striking visual element, that makes us very proud. Our customers allow us to create this edible art to share with those they love and admire, and to us, that is something special.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
We are all big Ruth Bader Ginsburg fans around here. She is a living legend and as women owe her quite a bit of respect.

On a softer note; our moms. We are all 3 extremely fortunate to have excellent mothers, and that certainly aided us all in landing where we have today.
