Meet Trailblazer Misty Farnsworth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Farnsworth.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Misty. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From the time I was a small girl, I’ve always had the desire to create. I used to watch my grandfather, who was a silversmith, create some of the most amazing pieces of fine silver jewelry I had ever seen. In my late teens, I wanted to work in fashion. I thought I might grow up to be a clothing designer but it didn’t take me too long to realize I was the world worst seamstress!

It wasn’t until 2010 that I found my knack in jewelry design. What started as a hobby creating necklace and bracelets for friends and family soon grew into a small business. Originally, I did a lot of beading but I wasn’t fully satisfied having to incorporate premade pendants and charms on my pieces. This is when I began to dabble in metalsmithing. Copper was a fairly inexpensive metal and easy to come by, so I practiced quite a bit with it. It wasn’t until about five years ago that I felt comfortable enough with my skills to start using Sterling Silver.

I currently sell my Southwest and Native American inspired jewelry worldwide through my online shop as well as from my home-based boutique.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The only struggle I feel I’ve faced in the past is doubting myself. I didn’t know if I was actually good enough when I first started. After much practice, trial and error, I’m at a place in my life that I feel more confident than ever!

My only advice is to never give up! We can be our own worst critics but nothing in life comes easy. Always be persistent and dedicated and you will find nothing but success on the horizon!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Spoiled Cowgirlz – what should we know?
I create unique pieces of Southwest and Native American inspired jewelry. Some of my most popular pieces are from my “Take No Bull” line. This collection features sterling silver cow skulls and turquoise stones. They are meant to empower women with their boldness! I also enjoy creating pieces that incorporate creatures of the southwest such as rattlesnakes, scorpions, and horny toads.

With each piece, I create there is a feeling of accomplishment. To have taken a simple piece of metal, formed and molded it into something fantastic is a phenomenal feeling.

Recently, I received the award for 2019 Best Western Silversmith in North America. That to me is a huge accomplishment! I couldn’t be more proud knowing that so many people love and appreciate my creations as much as I do!

Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mother is absolutely my biggest inspiration. Her patience and willingness to do for others is a true gift! She is one of the hardest working people I know! You can find her doing most anything from sewing to helping my dad with mechanics to public service at a local shelter. She is truly the image of a strong loving woman! I have always tried to model myself after her example!
