Meet Trailblazer Mikayla Shannon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikayla Shannon.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been into health and wellness my whole life so when I went to college I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I graduated from Arizona State in 2014 and basically found The Madison shortly after. There was something so different and incredible about the company that I couldn’t resist. Maybe it was the lights, the insane speakers or the fact that I got to meet incredible people but whatever it was I just couldn’t get enough. I started teaching spin shortly after working front desk there and I’ve been teaching ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve definitely overcome some struggles along the way. Sometimes, it can be really challenging getting up in front of 60 people and being completely vulnerable. Some days aren’t the greatest but no matter what when I get to work, I leave all my shit at the door and show up. Being in the fitness industry can be intimidating at times, but you have to remember your purpose.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I work at a spin studio, unlike anything you’ve ever seen. We have over a thousand LED lights with 16 light shows and the most incredible speakers. I would say my class is full of energy, motivation, and always some r&b. I want people to leave my class feeling better than they did walking in. I want it to not only be a good workout but an experience.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think women can take on any opportunity. Especially this generation with women empowering other women and finding our voices. I like to believe that we are well positioned for every opportunity.
