Today we’d like to introduce you to Marielle Arias.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a small town, people there expect you to get married and have babies young. I knew that life wasn’t for me. I wanted to travel the world, I wanted to do bigger things. My moving to Tucson was me coming to the “big city.” I met my fiancé in the first year I was here. Together, we dreamt of building an empire. Six years later, we own a food truck and a day spa. The first year we started our food truck, we ate 150 hotdogs each, taste testing, trying recipes, figuring out what works. Our menu is narrowed down to the top contenders to make the cut. There is so much love behind every gourmet hotdog, flatbread, and a quesadilla on that menu. It’s hard to pick a favorite. They’re all my babies.
Our day spa is a dream come true. I love being there, it’s my space, it’s my studio, my time. I feel grateful and joyful every time I walk in the door. I love helping people perfect their skin and get that glow. It’s the best feeling. It never feels like work.
When I’m feeling inspired to write, I blog about all of this on my blog (TheFoodieBitch.com) I love having a creative outlet for pictures and stories and even recipes. There’s always a lot going on but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My biggest and most important accomplishment is our two-year-old, Kingston. We named him after the capital of Jamaica after spending 10 days backpacking the island. When he gets a little older we look forward to traveling again, this time, all three of us. When we aren’t focused on business, our family is one hundred percent priority.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sure, there’s been lots of struggles, starting a business is not easy. Starting two is double the work! There have been ex-partners, there have been unmotivated people involved. There have been people with bad attitudes who are a detriment to your business and wellbeing. Despite all of this, I choose to focus on the positive. I’ve been lucky enough to receive lots of love and support through all of my ventures. Our food truck, The Blacktop Grill has quite the following and people are always excited to try it. It makes my heart smile when people try our food and love it. It’s the best. My day spa; Skinology, stays busy and the clients who come there are all like friends. We have facials/therapy sessions there. There’s nobody you trust more than your aesthetician. I feel grateful I can be that person for people, that means more than anything.
My advice to young girls starting out in business or in life is be confident and know you are capable. You’ve got this.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Skinology Skin and Body Studio/The Foodie bitch/The Blacktop Grill – what should we know?
At Skinology, I specialize in skincare and relaxation. We provide a wide range of services including Microdermabrasion, dermaplanes, lymphatic drainage facial massage, waxing, and lashes. I’m known for giving that post-facial glow like no other. I think you should definitely leave a spa feeling glowing, hydrated and wonderful. That’s what I strive to do.
I am most proud of helping women with self-care. As women, we do so much for other people, our husbands, our kids, our boyfriends, our dogs. Giving hard-working women an escape for relaxation and Glowing skin is something I’m proud to be a part of.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I’m a huge proponent of self-help books. It all began with “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne for me and spiraled into learning about the law of attraction. I love reading books by highly motivated people or investment savvy people like Tony Robbins or Dave Ramsey.
My go-to apps include:
headspace (for guided meditation) Audible (for multitasking while I drive)
Instagram (for all things business and personal)
I’m loving The Skinny Confidential blog and podcast right now, I can always check her out for inspiration. She’s cheeky, fun and skincare obsessed.
