Meet Trailblazer Lyndsey Williamson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsey Williamson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lyndsey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I knew since I was a freshman in high school, I wanted to be a hairstylist. I wanted to be in an industry where I could endlessly express my creativity. When I was 16, I started working at a local salon as a receptionist and started cosmetology school through a program my high school offered. It was a lot of work to juggle two schools and a job, but I was determined. After graduating cosmetology school, I began an assisting program to learn more in depth about color and cuts. I completed my year long program and became a full time stylist. I was at a couple of different salons before I found my home at Sola Salons. At Sola, I was able to start my own business by opening up my own studio. I have a place where I can focus on my clients and give them the best of what I am able to offer and I love that.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My dream has always been to have my own salon studio, I am very blessed to be able to have that today, but the road to get there hasn’t been easy. I had to start at the bottom and work my way up and create a solid foundation to set myself up for success.

I have faced a lot of challenges in this industry. For women out there who are just beginning their career, some things you may face are unhappy clients, harsh critiques, days where nothing seems to go right and co-workers who are discouraging. That can take a toll on your confidence. When it becomes your turn to be behind the chair and someone’s hair is in your hands, it can be scary. You feel anxious and feel like everything you learned evaporates from your head and you want to run. It’s normal, most people starting anything new feel this way. My advice is to trust the process. You are where you are because you have done all the right things to get there. I encourage continuing education. The more you learn and know, take what you have learned and put it into action the more confident you will become and feel like you can take on any task that comes your way.

After several years of hard work and patience, the day finally came when I was blessed to open my salon studio and begin my business with one of my close friends. It has been very rewarding, but the beginning was hard. A lot went into setting up the business and legal side of things before I could get to the fun part of hair. My advice for any women out there who are wanting a business of their own is to do your research on what licensing you need and documents you must have to start the process, it can take some time to send everything in and get approved before moving forward to opening the doors of your business. Also, map out your dreams and write down your ideas so you can watch them come to life. Finally, believe in yourself and be confident in the talent you have been given.

We’d love to hear more about Comb Sweet Comb.
I offer all color and cuts, but my bread and butter is balayage. Balayage is a hair painting technique that gives the hair a sun kissed, seamless look that requires minimal upkeep. I am able to free hand and customize with balayage to bring out my clients features.

What sets me apart from others is my everyday goal: No matter what someone is going through, no matter what kind of day they have had, I want them to be able to sit in my chair, be able to let down, know they are loved and cared for and has someone who will listen. I want everyone to leave my chair feeling beautiful and valued.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
There have been two women who have inspired me tremendously. My mom, Michelle Pedroza, is my rock. She has always seen the potential in me and has always pushed me to never give up on a dream I have. She is my number one cheerleader and inspires me to be better everyday and to love others well.

My mentor, Pam Love, has had a huge impact on me, she was a top stylist at the salon I assisted at. Starting off assisting I was terrified of messing up and didn’t want to disappoint. Pam took it upon herself to take me under her wing and push the limits and force me out of my comfort zone, no matter how much I pushed back. Pam believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and little by little, she broke me out of my shell and started shaping me into a confident stylist.
