Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyah Even.
Kyah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been a beauty guru. I loved trying new products, learning about different techniques, and experimenting with my makeup look. But I never made a career out of my passion for makeup, until about a year ago. I created my own Instagram profile, dedicated specifically for makeup tutorials, fashion inspiration, and encouragement. It’s my passion to share what true beauty means, and that all of us are precious children of Christ, created for a great purpose.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been some challenges in this industry. There are so many rising social media beauty influencers, and sometimes it’s very difficult to get exposure. You can up your hashtag game, and promote your posts, but sometimes, that only gets you so far. The important thing to remember is to never give up. If you have a dream, and you’re not seeing success as soon as you thought, keep going. Your dreams are worth pursuing and those passions inside you are from God. He will always make a way when you think there isn’t one.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a self-taught makeup artist, and also a beauty and lifestyle blogger. Since I’m not a certified makeup artist, I don’t often do freelance work, but any chance to do makeup is a blessing! I enjoy doing bridal, avant-garde/editorial, and theatrical makeup. If there’s an opportunity for me to be super creative and do a look that’s outside of my comfort zone, you bet, I’m taking it. But I didn’t want to be just a makeup artist. I majored in fashion design and merchandising in college, and I’ve always loved styling outfits and upcycling different pieces. My blog, www.desert-blonde.com, features makeup and beauty tips, fashion inspiration, as well as lifestyle posts. God has taught me so much about His character, His love, and also what it means to be physically and spiritually healthy, and I believe He has called me to share His truth with my followers and readers.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I’ve always been an artist. Growing up, I was constantly drawing, painting, and creating stories. I wanted to be a professional artist when I grew up, but I’m also an extreme perfectionist when it comes to my paintings. Soon, I lost that passion, but I couldn’t betray who God created me to be. I then fell in love with makeup artistry, I find so much joy in the opportunity to share my walk with Christ on my blog.
