Meet Trailblazer Kaylee Thorne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Thorne.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I always wanted to do hair, when I was 18, I graduated high school and went off to cosmetology school in southern Utah. I fell in love! After about three years of doing hair, I was burned out. I took a few months off and had to make a big decision, what do I really want to do with my life? One of my best friends had recently been certified in lash extensions through Borboleta Beauty and told me it would be perfect for me. I took her trusted advice and took the course and immediately knew it was for me! I now have been doing lashes for almost three years, am five times certified, carry a current cosmetology license in four states and own my own business. Never in a million years would I have thought this is where I would be, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve always been emotionally supported by family and friends but I’ve been financially independent since I was 18, paying my way through college in every way and since then. Which was definitely a struggle and can still be at times, but looking back and seeing how far I’ve come on my own, it’s a huge blessing. Be smart with your money and time. Do what you can with what you have. Make connections and network with anyone and everyone! I’m not going to lie, it can be so difficult but I’ve never been so proud of myself, learning how to run and build a business on my own is one of the most amazing blessings in my life, thus far. Keep your head up and ask for help when you need it!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lashes by Kaylee – what should we know?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist who specializes in professional eyelash extensions. I’m five times certified and have been doing eyelashes for about three years. I’m known for providing a natural-looking eyelash extension for everyday wear! Most people will ask “are those your real lashes?!” and that’s the biggest compliment! I’m a brand ambassador for Borboleta Beauty and use exclusively their top of the line products on every single one of my clients. I provide a luxury service and experience for every client that walks into my studio.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mom, she raised five daughters and has always taught us to get an education and go for it! The only person standing in your way is yourself.

Kim Jaynes, the founder, and owner of Borboleta Beauty, without her and her company I know I wouldn’t be the lash artist I am today. She inspires me daily to push my limits and artistic abilities and be the strong woman I know I am.

Michelle Obama, I feel that there’s nothing that she cannot do. She’s a two-time college graduate, author, feminist, and former First Lady. She wants equality not only for women but for everyone and that’s something I can 100% stand with.
