Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Brumm and Amanda Belinger.
Amanda has a heart for the community she lives in and a talent for connecting people. She recognized a need in Arcadia families for great, consistent, and available babysitters. Her network of high school and college aged kids was vast, has been a Young Life leader since 1999. After successfully connecting her mommy friends with amazing sitters, she was prompted to extend the network. At the time Katrina Brumm was graduating with a business masters and years of nanny experience and the two joined together to grow Busy Bees Babysitting. The development of the Busy Bees Babysitting app through, Marc Smith, was a leap in the productivity and growth of Busy Bees Babysitting. They currently service Phoenix, Arcadia, Paradise Valley, Scottsdale and most recently the East Valley too!
Has it been a smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is fun but can be challenging at times. We have focused on the core of our company and that is providing the highest level of childcare in an efficient and simple way to the families of our community as well as parenting groups, adoption groups, and local churches. Our advice would be to really reflect develop and focus on what the core of your company is and always remember why you started down this road. Whenever a difficult decision comes to be, look to those few core competencies and use them as your guide for decision making. The second bit of advice is to have a little fun along the way. Entrepreneurship is absolutely a journey and you must learn to enjoy along the way!
We’d love to hear more about Busy Bees Babysitting.
Busy Bees Babysitting specializes in connecting qualified childcare providers with safe local families. One of the aspects of Busy Bees that makes us unique is that we are referral based only network. We are set up this was not only for safety but also to ensure that we grow at a rate to guarantee that we can fully serve all new clients and meet their childcare needs. All of our Bees must complete an in-person interview prior to joining the network. Many of these Bees are in school pursuing careers in teaching, nursing, and many other majors. We value the opportunity to connect them to safe families, the families to have safe childcare and the kids to create fun memories.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
We do believe that there are many opportunities that women are well positioned within many different industries. We encourage our Bees to use every opportunity to develop their skill set at each job. We have heard many times that our Bees have the chance to apply what that they are currently learning in school as well as learn from the parents a valuable life lesson or join in a new family tradition. Our upper management is all women, excluding our app developer and graphic designer, and we consistently work to inspire the Bees to pursue their dreams. We have many interns and managers that were all promoted from within and we often write letters of recommendation for Bees pursuing graduate school, medical school or going into the classroom as an educator. We are proud to be women, to serve moms and to create jobs for over 1000 young women in our neighborhood!
