Meet Trailblazer Jennie Nieto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennie Nieto.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Getting to where I am today has not been an easy road I can sincerely start by stating that. When I realized the love that I had for makeup and to go as far as applying and making myself a makeup artist this I learned by myself years ago before YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, etc. I am a self-taught makeup artist and I can assure you the title is exactly what I am. Now, I know that I still have a ways to go but from the beginning that had always been the goal. Growing up, I never had anyone teach me all things girly, especially makeup. So, when I was given permission from my father to start wearing makeup it was truly an adventure. Mind you I was already about 17 years old at the time and getting permission sounds silly but those were the times that I grew up in and trying to hide it would have a worse outcome than just asking and being allowed to, lol. Some know exactly what I’m referring to. All jokes aside I did what I could with what I had run with it and well let’s just say we are where we are now because of it. The passion has always been there, the love for it has been there and grown since and the future as I know it will lead to all things successful. I started with a little mascara a brown eyeliner as a lip liner and some lip gloss, lol. And that was the beginning of something big, little did I know, it at the time but I am beyond grateful for it all.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Has it been a smooth road, of course not? I’ve had to deal with criticism, judgment, lies, people not believing in me. You name it, I’m sure I have already been there and done that. I started my career on my own without anyone knowing at the time that I was about to go out and be a makeup artist. At the time, some people were surprised, some were supportive and then some had either something to say or were just not supportive at all. Now, the way I see it, is I have to have gone through this journey to actually see who was on my team and who was not. Since then, I have learned so much, so many doors have opened up to me and the success is only growing. I went into this makeup world only thinking of all the good things that were going to come out of it and never the bad. With that being said I have had some issues along the way and I have learned from them. Mind you, I am doing this alone with no help from anyone and as I go, it’s how I’ve been learning. The bad has not outweighed the good and that is why I will not stop, it just made me realize so much more. Especially that the opportunities are endless along with the success. We are all out here trying to make it and trust me there is enough room for us all.

The best advice I could give someone is to sit down and think to yourself of what it is that you want to do and what is the outcome you want from it as well. Once you realize and know what you want to go for it and make it happen, but also know that so much truth will come from it whether it be someone judging your work or not supporting you in any kind of way. Once you start noticing that don’t let that stop you use that as a flame to add to you’re fire and replace those who don’t support you with those who will or use the judgment from someone as a learning experience. Don’t let the negativity get to you ever because there is nothing you can do to ever make it go away so just use it to your advantage.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beauty Is Within You – what should we know?
So, as previously mentioned I’m a Self-Taught Makeup Artist. I have been doing freelance makeup on clients for about four to five years now. I specialize on creating full face looks with requests of hairstyles as well, so depending on the client I am here for all their needs whether it be for a wedding, prom, quinceanera, birthday, holiday, etc. Whatever they need I am at their service.

I am most proud of the work that I have done to those who have not had their makeup done in years or ever and the expressions of family and friends experiencing the beauty of someone when they are all dolled up and look so gorgeous is so awesome!!! It’s just an amazing feeling to share that with someone because not only do they feel beautiful but they walk around with their head held high an extra sense of beauty and obviously they can’t help themselves but show it off all day with selfies and pictures galore. And I am so grateful to be a part of that and obviously thanks to my clients for allowing me to experience that with them as well.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Yes, I do. I was raised by a single parent, father. With that being said he was never going to be the one who was going to teach me how to put on makeup or what to buy so I had to learn that part on my own. But he did teach me alot about business and what it takes to make something out of nothing. He himself was an intrapreneur and he made all goals and dreams a reality. And that alone has always given the drive and passion to go out there and make my business something more than what it is now. The goal and the dream are big, this is only the beginning of something more and in all honesty, I can’t wait for the outcome. The experience I had of a single father who was blind, illiterate, had health issues and personal issues to overcome on a daily basis has given the strength and the drive to never give up and to always keep going because of him and the businesses he had even with obstacles on the daily is a constant reminder that I can not and will not ever give up. That will never be an option.
