Meet Trailblazer Jeannette Mendez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannette Mendez.

Jeannette, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raced in Mexico, my father is an architect with a very bohemian personality who gave me the opportunity to leave my roots and family to move to the USA when I was 20 years old. I started university at NAU and completed my career with a bachelors in Interior Design. I got hired at a well-known hospitality design firm with one of the most successful designers in town. I then got married to a young successful man and that’s where a new stage in my life began. I experienced a dysfunctional marriage for over 16 years from Infidelities, bankruptcy relocation to a different country all the way to a divorce. I left empty handed no job, no money and two young children in the midst of adversity, confusion, and depression. Another stage in my life was about to begin, then the right people were sent into my life to help me align my destiny with my purpose. I ran into a very successful young man who discovered my potential! I have a saying when power meets potential it’s an energy that it’s unstoppable! He believed in me and saw my talents, also gave me the opportunity to work with him and his company Patterson Homes a well-known construction company here in town. Thanks to his vision, I am now a very successful designer in the industry a consultant for many investors/builders in town with a remarkable career in the six-figure number. Multiple recognitions and awards in the industry also known for my own label and legacy. I also met another beautiful soul in my life who tough me who I really was and what I was capable of doing and achieving. He made me get out of my comfort zone to discover my potential. He helped me grow in my spiritual life and most importantly he tough me how to achieve balance. I’m now a leader and influencer in the Hispanic community empowering women to help them discover their gifts and talents. I have to say that it was good for me to be afflicted because after the crushing all the new wine came out of me and made me who I am now, a secure and powerful woman full of joy and compassion for others walking in my purpose giving and sharing what I have to help others… I like to remind people that your history it’s a glimpse of your destiny and the current circumstances in your life won’t define who you are.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road. The major obstacles are our own insecurities we allow others to label ourselves and we create our own limitations. My mind is my power and the power is in my mind that’s something we should never forget. We want the career/title but we don’t want to commit and study. We want success but we don’t want the failure. We want the recognition but can’t handle the criticism. To whom much is given much is required it’s all in the capacity of what you can handle the more capacity the bigger the burden but the greater the blessing!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Architectural Designer – what should we know?
I have a degree in interior design but throughout the journey, I discovered that my passion is for construction so I am now an architectural designer. I work with clients from the space planning, design development, selection of finishes up to construction and completion of the project. I do hospitality design, commercial and residential. Have participated in big projects for branded hotels in hospitality, also have a design for well-known brands nationwide and currently working on residential projects for sports celebrities in town. Having the ability to design and execute the project with my team of contractors for clients has made me the solution and answer for many clients in town.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
women have the talent of multitasking and accomplishing many things at the same time. Us, women, have a tool that can be used in our favor and that is the power of controlling everything we can!!! It might sound horrible but when used with the right intention we can lead large groups of people and direct them in a professional way! A lot of the most successful CEO that I know are women and it’s because we have the talent of communication, control, and direction. I do feel and believe that woman are leaders.
