Meet Trailblazer Irma Rosario

Today we’d like to introduce you to Irma Rosario.

Irma, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was given the opportunity to have spent my younger years growing up within the tristate area on the east coast. That exposed me to different ways of exploring my surroundings and I poured that desire to discover into my everyday life. Displaying my enthusiasm for learning new things has led me to notice the hidden history and culture of every city I visit. At times, I have gone a bit further than most people to better maintain my passion for discovering the unknown. I have always looked to find the heart of a city and find what makes it beat with culture. A Phoenix is a mythical bird that reincarnates itself rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle. I want our Discoverers/Travelers to feel as if they are being renewed while finding something different about themselves while exploring the city of Phoenix. Seeing Phoenix develop into such an incredible city in the last few years has encouraged me to become Lead Navigator, so I can contribute to its growth for years to come. Phoenix is full of indigenous and thrilling discoveries in every corner with local vintage shops, tons of independent art galleries, local breweries, an old school arcade and popular speakeasies. Adding a few personal touches from my experiences to every interaction helps me provide astonishing recommendations to our Discoverers. My number one mission is to listen to what our Discoverers are longing for in their travels and navigate them to the right spots. I take great pleasure in receiving wonderful feedback from our Discoverers after having them venture outside into my urban oasis of Phoenix Arizona.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been an interesting journey getting to know Phoenix. The road that has let me to where I am today has not been the best at times, but it sure was worth the wait. When first arriving in Phoenix, I made sure I did everything possible to work with people who were involved in the community. I was able to be part of many with local fundraisers, fashion shows, festivals and other events. Volunteering at events like that and not getting compensated, made it very challenging at times, but having the chance to network with so many different amazing people made it all worth it. I got to know the city very well, the people who continue to make a difference in the city and it made me very proud to be able to contribute. My advice to anyone will be to take the time to go and meet people in the community, network as much as possible and open yourself to new possibilities, you never know where it will take you.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Renaissance Phoneix Downtown Hotel – what should we know?
Renaissance Hotels helps our guests to discover the unexpected to inspire stories worth retelling. The Renaissance Hotels always tries to activate an “elevated” brand experience to prove we are the hotel brand serving up unexpected experiences that go beyond the convention of travel by introducing local discoveries in and around our hotels. Our focus is delivering unique & unexpected activations that celebrate what is truly authentic to the local neighborhood and market. An experience that is shareable, memorable and brag-worthy. Every guest staying at a Renaissance hotel or within the local community will be encouraged to participate as we activate our Navigator and on-property Evenings at Renaissance (bar/lounge) programming.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I was born and raised in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, which help me develop a great appreciation for small communities and it taught me to better understand the importance of supporting your local commonwealth. Living a modest life back in PR with my family prepared me to find gratitude in everything I do. I believe that living such a diverse life, both in the states and back in PR, gave me a better outlook on life, than most people. It helps me in problem-solving and using all of my resources in order to get any task completed.
