Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Jawaro.
Gloria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello everyone! I am 22 years old. I was born in Midland, Texas and then moved to Glendale, Arizona shortly after I was born.
From what I remember, I always was really passionate about social media and beauty. I worked mostly with cosmetics and the art of applying it. I am now working in the banking industry. While working at the bank, I am also obtaining my Business Administration with a minor in Accounting degree by the end of this year from Grand Canyon University.
March of 2018 truly changed my life for the better. For years, after developing an intense obsession for beauty and the camera. I came home from a work meeting and I looked at myself in the mirror and said: ”You look cute, just turn on the camera and film A Get to Know Me Q+A because that’s what all the new YouTubers do right?”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If there weren’t any struggles, we wouldn’t know what to work on and grow. Yes, I experienced many struggles along the road. Being in front of a camera and exposing everything about yourself can get difficult. I know I choose to film and post these videos but it is because I love what I do in front of the camera. My struggle can be turned very quickly because filming these videos can be my struggle or my solution instantly.
For the women who are just starting their journey, first off thank you. This is the first step in sharing who you are and what you will benefit to this world. Showcasing what God has gifted to you can really pave the way for other women to showcase their gifts too.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
After developing my YouTube channel, it sparked a higher desire for creating something that would represent me. I am an Assyrian. I don’t just post videos about makeup but I post videos that also tell my audience who I am. I teach what it is to be Assyrian and a lot of following are Assyrians from all over the world. I am proud to show who I am and my background on my channel.
Every time I get asked, “Where do you see yourself in five years?” I always say starting my own Cosmetic brand. After learning and loving everything about cosmetics, you learn what works and doesn’t work. I want to customize products for the everyday woman or man.
Being a full-time student and worker has shaped me into the person I am today. When I started YouTube, this really added a substance into my life that I was missing. Being busy with work and school can get stressful, however, having a YouTube channel is a nice escape from reality.
Ever since filming and posting that first video everything truly changed for me. The way I carried my self, talked to people, and my overall look on life changed. I learned to love myself and grow. Yes, this all happened because I started filming myself blending my shadow and told you how I had a crazy Ellen show experience… (shameless plug). I love to make people feel good and just forget about their problem for 12-15 minutes of the day. I feel as if I bring a different perspective and energy on my channel. I want to make you feel like you belong and will be appreciated.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think any position can be attainable no matter what the gender is. However, I do believe women face a lot more challenges when it comes to obtaining those opportunities. I’ve been lucky and have been around women in higher positions managing me. Women are well equipped for any position that comes their way.
