Meet Trailblazer Chelsey Curtis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Curtis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up with a health-conscious family, which isn’t a bad thing by any means, but mix that with a perfectionistic personality and a little anxiety and it’s not great! After gaining the freshman 15 plus another 15 pounds within the first year, I was living away from home in 2014, I started developing terrible habits that eventually led me to struggle with an eating disorder for several years. I would binge every night, but then restrict myself like a maniac in the day. I would work out and run on the treadmill for 2+ hours every day. I got to the point where I was only eating rice cakes, steamed veggies, and grapes for my meals. I was obsessed with what I thought was “health” and I thought I was doing great, despite the fact that I couldn’t think of anything else besides food, I hated my body and couldn’t even look in the mirror without crying. I got married to my amazing husband Nick in April of 2016 and we moved away from home to live in La Jolla, California for his work. Suddenly, it hit me. I needed help. After gaining the support of my parents and my husband, I went to a therapist. She helped me so much and so I wanted to help other girls get out of the same vicious cycle I had been trapped in. In 2017, I attended the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and thus began my career of being a health and wellness coach and advocate! Since then, I’ve written a plant-based guide to self-love called “Planted.” I have also released my juice recipe eBook called, “Juicing Anatomy”, started my blog, and a podcast with my best friend Jaci Marie called “What We Said.” I have learned so many lessons about gratitude, self-love, what it means to be truly healthy, and what it takes to live a happy, sustainable life. I have gone through so many ups and downs, through it all I’ve learned that all it takes is a little faith and a LOT of hard work.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have absolutely not had a smooth road. My road feels more like a roller coaster most of the time… I’ve had heavy disappointments, we’ve experienced betrayal and business deals that have gone south. I used to get so down about it but I had to stop taking everything so personal. I always got so overwhelmed by the future. I always felt one step behind. Now, I understand that everyone’s journey is independent. You can’t possibly be behind someone else because you are not even on the same road let alone heading towards the same location. Any turbulence that I’ve experienced on my business journey has only made the successes feel that much sweeter. I appreciate harsh feedback, I use it to my advantage. I am grateful for disappointment because it opens up new doors. I really believe that if you focus on all the little steps and put time and effort into those, you will see big success.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a health coach, author, podcaster, and blogger! I am known for my plant-based insight, juice and smoothie recipes, holistic approach to health, and my sometimes-too-sarcastic humor. I am really proud of how far I’ve come in the last couple of years, but I know I couldn’t have done it without the help of my family, friends, and community. I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve grown so much as an individual and in turn, that showed through the success of my brand. I’ve thought that the rawness, vulnerability, true value, and easy to follow tips and tricks I try to provide with my audience is what sets my businesses apart from the rest
