Meet Trailblazer Catie Menke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catie Menke.

Catie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved to Phoenix six years ago (which is crazy to think about now) to go back to school for Graphic Design and to pursue my dance career. I was lucky enough to have danced for the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders for three seasons. After retiring, I truly missed being a part of a team.

In efforts to regain my girl tribe, I started hosting Brunch. Brunch is a networking event + workshop with an emphasis on self-awareness and self-love. I wanted to create a space where attendees would learn valuable career tools while finding a deeper connection to themselves and others.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business has been a rewarding and challenging journey. With every event, I have learned useful information about my career and also myself. Some of the struggles I faced, in the beginning, were gaining the courage to start and finding the right people to work with. The advice I’d give to women who are beginning their own career journey is to start before its perfect and take the time to find people you trust with your passion.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brunch – what should we know?
Brunch is hosted four times a year. Each event has a guest speaker that leads in an informative workshop in their particular expertise. We’ve had topics from blogging and starting your own online website, to creative direction and videography. The goal of Brunch is to create a space for women to be able to come together for a greater purpose. It’s a true joy to create that kind of energy.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel like the conversation around women and opportunities is changing. Women are brave, courageous, and true. Women bring both strength and grace. Women are well positioned for any opportunity their heart desires. I applaud the women that have and continue to challenge the status quo. Through their example, I’ve been able to create my own story.
