Meet Trailblazer Anita Lang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Lang.

Anita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I can remember designing my first home at age 12, well besides the Barbie townhouse I did much earlier. My poor mom lost her crystal bracelet as I redesigned it into Barbie’s dining room chandelier.

Following my passion has indeed led to an amazing career where I have had the privilege of serving incredible clients with premiere projects.

With experience, education and good old fashioned hard work, I am so proud of the firm IMI Design has become. Our projects include everything from spas and clubhouses to luxury residences across the states and abroad.

My passion and the driving philosophy of our firm is the belief that beauty has a profound effect on the human spirit, and we have the responsibility to use our craft to elevate our clients’ lives with compelling, nurturing and meaningful design.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My advice to women would be to encourage them to take chances; do not let fear of failure paralyze your growth. Culturally, women have been conditioned to take the safest path, but without stretching we will not be able to grow. Calculate your risk, allow for failure… if you can live through the possible downside, then go for it!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about IMI Design Studio – what should we know?
I believe there are three major things that set us apart as designers.

The first is that our client is our muse. It is why each project looks so unique. We absorb their preferences and dreams for the project and using our experience and talents we can translate this into a reality.

Secondly, our design philosophy is based on the importance of the architectural integrity of a project. The design plan starts with the architectural detailing of the structure itself using truthful materials and textures. The design continuity is then carried through to the curation of the furniture, art, and even accessories.

Last is the technical side of design. A plethora of details and information is required to ensure a successful project. IMI Design is known for comprehensive construction documents that include drawings, specifications, and detail sheets, to address the many components that go into constructing a high-end project. IMI Design has a proprietary web-based platform to ensure up to date, accurate construction documentation to disseminate to the team players 24/7.

Where do you find your inspiration from?
I love to travel, and that is also where I get a lot of my design inspiration. I have an upcoming trip planned for design week in Milan, so I can continue to be up to date on design innovations on a global level.

I also believe in a strong spiritual practice that includes reading inspiring works that feed the soul and keeping my daily meditation practice.
